I already own the collected works of Kafka in English, so any of his books sound good to me. I have most of Dostoyevski's works (in Greek, but it shouldn't matter, since we'd all be reading a translation anyway).

The Confessions of Nat Turner, William Styron 1967. ( Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction, 1968.)
I have this damn book right here and have never read it.

Didn't The Little Children book club read Madame Bovary?
I totally want in and I would like to put my insanity behind Chuck Palahniuk's Haunted.
Oooh and I've been trying to ready Dostoevsky's The Possessed for forever... this would ummm give me motivation to really read it.

What is the "Little Children" book club? It's not really a book for children, IMO.

It was a book first... the character played by Kate is in some book club and they read Madame Bovary.
How about the Ramayana?

I saw this book today while skiving off college, it looks cute, witty and funny -
The Great Big Glorious Book for Girls(there one for boys too!)-
Synopsis
Homemade scones, pom-poms, daisy chains. . . The Great Big Glorious Book for Girls will take women back to a time when we made cup cakes with our grandmothers, when girls weren't obsessed with all things pink, when they didn't wear ‘hot to trot’ t-shirts aged eight and when a bit of sticky-backed plastic and a tissue box could be the answer to your dreams!
Perfect for mothers, grandmothers, aunts and godmothers (as well as daughters, granddaughters, nieces and goddaughters, of course), this is a book for all women who secretly, or not so secretly, loved playing French elastics, dream of making elderflower cordial and need reminding of how to play cat’s cradle.
Probably not to everyones taste but it looks fun!

Laurent-NO! I found it utterly tiresome. The lady at the bookstore said she did too BUT it wa translated into english & was so much better in the original Portugese, I think she said. How about something more perky-like Fanny Hill? I know we'd all love that one-or Tom Jones!
