Me neither. I'm still skeeved by their relationship, though. It just skirts the edge of incest. Real skanky, them.

I have read so much criticism of Woody Allen over this... Soon Yi was NOT adopted by Allen, but by Mia Farrow and another husband of hers. They met, and as chance would have it fell in love. It might not have been the "perfect" situation for most people, but it happened! Love happens you know! Just the fact that they've been together for so many years and have 2 children together, you'd think that would be enough for most people to be convinced that they are for real...

I don't know about anyone else, but I knew that Soon-Yi wasn't Woody's adopted daughter. But it's not like they just met somewhere when she was an adult, and fell in love. That would have been fine.
He was dating her mom, and she was just a little girl when he met her... Soon-Yi was only what, 10 years old when he hooked up with Mia? So he knew her as a child for years. I think that's what weirds people out so much. It reeks of an older man taking advantage of a much younger woman. It makes people wonder if he was molesting her when she was underage. It put a bad taste in everyone's mouth. It didn't matter that she was an adult when they were discovered to be having an affair. It still seemed... wrong.
It's moot now because she's an adult and they seem happy, but then he goes and says this stuff about feeling paternal and it brings it all right back up again.

I read a few months back that they don't speak but Mia still hopes that Soon-Yi will come around. Something about her still setting a place for her at family holiday dinners.

Dear Lord! What?! I'd have written her off completely with Woody. I know people will argue that - bottom line - she's her daughter..yada, yada, yada....but I don't necessarily define "family" by blood. As young as Soon-Yi was, she was old enough to know right from wrong and she made her choice. I hope Mia is never open to the opportunity of any sort of reconciliation.

outside of whether or not woody allen and soon yi have a creepy relationship, mia farrow is insane and neurotic and not the saint she likes to be portrayed as. this is the same woman that 'returned' one of the children she'd adopted when he didn't turn out like she wanted.

I agree. I've seen clips of Woody and Soon-yi having breakfast,
talking like any normal couple. She didn't just sit there and go
"uh-huh, uh-huh..." She was quite fluent.
Now MY Korean students -- they're retarded.

oh, leave woody alone... he's still the witty, smart director I've loved since I was a child....I don't care about his love affaires at all, and I'm so glad he stopped using the immensely annoying mia farrow
using the word "incest" is just plain wrong! soon yi looks like a sweet but determined woman, and I'm sure she was sick as hell of her adoptive mother...was this relationship also a way for soon yi to hurt her mother? could be...the biggest mistake woody made was to go on with a dead shark of a relationship, that's for sure

Agree!
Oh and Lobelia, we are talking about Bergmans Seventh Seal arent we? One of the most artistically intact movies ever made, on which most professionals in the area agree?? Death and the knight playing chess and that sort of thing? Black and white and in swedish?
I think you might be confusing it with the Seventh Sign... Dont get me wrong, I love me some Jürgen Prochnow! But it just isnt the same thing...

I am just curious to how you would react if you were in a long-term relationship with a man and your adopted daughter, whom your "husband" knew since she was 10, conducted a clandestine affair with the girl under your roof? I am absolutely positive you would feel just as kind and understanding toward her and him as you do toward Woody and Soon-Li. And most marriages hit dry spells -- does that mean everybody should immediately throw in the towel and start dating children instead?
Allen has a long, long reptuation of being attracted and dating women still in their teen years -- kinda odd for a normal grown man, don't you think? He's not the only man to do this, but he's done it a LOT. Remember Mariel Hemingway?
I used to like his movies, but even before the Soon-Yi scandal, he was going downhill as an artist. I met/interviewed him at a movie junket for Bullets over Broadway and he had the limpest, wettest handshake I've ever felt. And I've probably shaken as many hands as a politician, and people with those kinds of limp shakes are always odd. He was also just physically strange, and emanated a very creepy vibe. Ugh...I was weirded out at the time, and I still am.

I love Woody Allen. I do agree that the relationship is creepy for sure. But I also agree that the time has passed and proven their love etc etc. Oh and Soon-Yi is not mentally challenged.
Now consider this: Anyone watch Young and the Restless? How about Brad and Victoria. He was married to her mother when she was a girl AND her sister is brads adopted daughter. Now THAT is creepy. But yet we are expected to think there is nothing wrong (other than the fact brad is a cad). So I figure that if popular television thinks that realtionship is okay then Woody and Soon-Yi are completely normal.

Woody and Mia had a child together, so Woody married his son’s sister. Creepy.
