Actually Boo Gary, apparently he was a total jerk and a raging alcoholic when they were married and he was 35 while she was 19. He is a good actor but defintely has some problems so it is hardly Uma's fault. In fact she has never said a bad thing about him even though some horrible stuff happened so good for her for being classy.

Gary wasn't '35 while she was 19'!! Gary was 32 and she was 20 when they married in 1990. From what I've read, she actually broke up his first marriage, so she's not much of an innocent either.
It's true she has never said bad things about him, but he has never said anything bad about her either so that makes him as classy about their breakup as she is IMO.
He did drink a lot during that time, he has said as much himself. He also said they didn't get to spend a lot of time together because they were both so busy working and it took a toll on their marriage just like it takes a toll on most of the marriages in Hollywood.
I love my Gary, as you can probably tell.

Also....he has not been drinking for about ten years now, so GOOD FOR YOU GARY!!!!!!

Well good for him if he is sober but he broke up his own marriage and she was 19 when they met. I like Gary as an actor and I know Uma is no innocent but why blame her for either the collapse of his previous marriage or the end of theirs. I can see how it would have been doomed for them as Uma was so young and wild and Gary had his problems. but why hold it against Uma?

I liked Gary and Uma together. They looked far more interesting than she and that hygenically challenged second husband of hers.

Of course, I'm still hoping Sean and Madonna will give it another try.

I know they met when she was 19, but he was 31, not 35 when they began seeing each other.

I wasn't 'blaming her', you are the one who placed all the blame on Gary and I was only defending him saying it wasn't all his fault. You said yourself, she was 'young and wild' so maybe she shared a little bit of the blame. As for his first marriage, she also shares that blame too, since she was seeing a married man.

I said I "don't care for her", and I was speaking directly from the standpoint of being a fan of Gary Oldman, and frankly I envy her because she WAS married to him. I don't care one way or the other about her or her problems. Good gracious, doesn't anybody have a right to dislike an actor or actress for their own personal reasons without having to take a lie detector test?

oh sorry I did not mean to sound accusatory. I was just saying that it was not all her fault the relationship ended. And that she was hardly a homewrecker. I guess we can agree that it was not meant to last. It just seemed like you were holding it against her. In the end people have their favorites and that's fine.

I apologize for being so touchy. I know there were two sides to their breakup, most of the time there are.
They fell in love while he was still married.....that happens all the time in Hollywood. It happens a lot in real life too.
I don't dislike Uma because she and Gary broke up......I dislike her in a 'jealous of her' kind of way because she had him and let him get away and I will never even have a chance to meet him. I hope that made sense.

No worries. I agree with what you said. Actors really shouldn't marry each other but it seems like they can't help it. They have both gone on to lead succesful lives so I guess it just part of their life experience. I understand about wanting to meet people you admire so much. They both had a lot of respect never to talk about it and I do admire them for it.

I admire them both too for not badmouthing each other. She has called him her "first love"......which I think is very sweet.

It seems like Hollywood marriages are doomed from the start. So much temptation when they're separated for long periods of time and working with other people so closely. I don't see how many of them last as long as they do. They make ridiculous amounts of money for what they do, but pay a price in other ways for their chosen profession. I don't know if I would ever want to be a celebrity or not.
