I know how he could regain his popularity. Break away from that succubus cult and come out and admit to being gay already! He could go on Oprah and talk about how it's the most difficult thing he's ever done...yada, yada, yada...and even how his life, rep, career (what's left of it), etc. was threatened by the cult bigwigs. Oh....and let the poor knocked up girl out of her contract already and if you must stay in her life be her good gay friend and help her sort things out with the baby's dad and her family. Then find a nice man and live happily ever after and maybe be the first openly gay male in history to have a successful acting career playing straight leading men. I'm tellin' ya the offers would start pouring back in and he could see an oscar yet.

Of course this only has hope for being a good movie script, as he'll never do any of these things.

I started thinking Cruise was a jerk right around the Vanilla Sky/Penelope Cruz era. I couldn't even watch the movie without thinking "ew, what a scuz." Never imagined it would escalate to something so...mind-boggling.

And the most ironic part of this hilarious drop in popularity is: He thought that hooking up w/Katie (or another 'young' chick) and blabbing all over town how much you love her after just meeting her for the first time, then allegedly knocking her up, he thought that would MAKE HIM MORE POPULAR!!
He thought he would sell MORE TICKETS, the young crowd would think he was cool and get MORE ROLES!!

Now people are running from him and laughing at him to his face!

Calculated or not, each and every thing he's done in the last year has only made the situation (his popularity downward spiraling out of control and people thinking he's a nutball) snowball.

I think getting rid of that publicist and having all aspects of his life and career controlled by *the cult* and its members has been/will be the kiss of death.

There is no way he could ever regain any popularity. He is too up himself to ever make people think he is worth paying money to see. Smart ass is another word that comes to mind. His sense of self importance and his ostentatious, vulgar displays of "being in love" have turned regular people off him forever. Telling the world he is, in fact, gay, would only make me laugh more.
