what a ridiculous post. Soj, I'm respectfully asking this question. Is "fag" (said really fast and quiet) bad across the board? I have a few gay friends in Chicago and they use it all the time. I've never had the impression that it was hatespeech.

There are some gay people that use it (sort of like some black people use "ni**er") in an effort to reclaim the word. It pretty much follows the same rules, ok for them, not so much for others.

There is also the common term "faghag" which is used for a straight woman who spends a lot of time with gay men (my gay friends have dubbed me a faghag).

This pretty much sums it up. If gays use it in the sense of empowerment it is not so bad..when others who are clearly not using it in this sense and are not gay use it, it is not OK IMO...and it becomes something akin to hatespeech. I can understand a black person using the 'N' word(even though it kind of makes me uncomfortable...like when Grimm uses 'fag')..but I would NEVER use that word myself, as I am not black and cannot be using it in the empowering way a black person could.

^^ Huh, well I suppose that's how I understood most of it. I'm not quite a "faghag" and by that I mean I do have several gay friends but I don't hang out with them extensively anymore (mostly because life gets in the way of having the fun I used to have), but the guys I hung out with weren't bothered if other people used the term. Huh, consider me edumacated.

This is nothing more than wishful thinking on Ted's part. I seriously, SERIOUSLY doubt that Matthew McConaughey is gay, and I would also have a hard time believing Lance Armstrong is gay. They're two guys who share common interests (cycling, outdoors, Texas football) and became friends when Lance was considering Matt for the Lance Armstrong movie, and I really think that's all there is to it. Who is paying for their vacations is irrelevant. And as for Ted trying to insinuate that Matt is using Lance for free trips, please... Matt has plenty of his own money. I highly doubt he's interested in mooching off of Lance.

I guess in my perception the gay community has taken over and empowered certain terms(like 'queer'..Queer as Folk..Queer Eye For The Straight Guy) so that term is not so much of a problem. I do not believe the word 'fag' or any derivative of that word has reached that level of 'being taken over and empowered"..like the word queer has.

There has been a lot of gossip about Matt and Lance. But I defintely don't think they are gay but wouldn't be surprised if they are bi curious or just like sleepiing together. I don't know if Ted is just joking or not. But I don't think Lance is a homosexual. I do recall reading a blind Vice that seemed to be about these two. Ted did say something about them sharing a house and a pool or something. Maybe they are just friends? But to me there is no proof that they are bisexual. I won't say they are gay because I heard their womanizing is legendary.
