We don't have brick walls between the apartments. In my apartment, we've got good ol' 2x4's insulation, and sheetrock seperating everyone. On the outside, we've got OSB waferboard and siding. No brick walls for us!

Oh I see... Well thanks for filling me in on the construction of American apartments! It makes more sense now....

Actually, her maturity level screams "12 year old" to me.

I knew a guy whose downstairs neighbors stunk up his apt. with smoke. They did start opening up their windows to smoke, then the smoke smell just came in through the windows which were opened on hot days. Much more effecient then through the vents.

DH and I both smoke, but we run smoke-sucking fans when we do; we have two of those fans.
Our next-door neighbour does not smoke, and he has never complained about cigarette smoke. I don't even smell cigarette smoke in our shared hallway.

A lot of people are much more sensitive to the smell of smoke too. I for one, couldn't smell smoke on myself when I smoked, however, now that I'm a non-smoker, I can smell it immediately whenever anyone enters a room, or I get close to a place where smoking is or has occured. I give my hubby crap, because I can smell it on him when he gets into bed, and now I can't stand the smell!

I don't know why more smokers can't be considerate like you and your DH. To be fair, I really doubt my neighbors knew their smoke was invading my apartment. And I'm kind of a non-confrontational type so I never said anything. And fortunately, the problem solved itself, because I haven't smelled smoke in several months, now.
