I agree with you Elisa. The fact Rosie has depression doesn't surprise me one bit. In fact, most overly critical people ARE very depressed because they see things in such a negative light. Anger and bitterness doesn't stem from happy people.

Rosie's been getting on my last nerve lately. I don't watch that show and I'm sick of reading about her elsewhere.

I use a lite book for SAD and it works wonders. In fact, I have it on right now.

Oh that reminds me I heard last summer that Costco has a light that costs around $130 and you use it every morning for 15 mins. starting the end of September when the light starts diminishing... you're not supposed to use it after 12pm because it's enervating and can really prevent you from sleeping. I want to get that thing. (Now that we're heading into spring )

I use mine for more than 15 minutes. I try to sit near it for 30 minutes minimum. And on really grey days, more, if I'm home. I instantly feel better once I turn it on -- more energetic and happier.

Oh damn. WHY did I forget to buy that thing?! I will say though, that since I'm at home during the day I can go outside and sit near natural light whenever I want... that's been helping.

When I lived in L.A. and S.F. I used to get SAD really bad... getting off work in the dark after sitting inside under fluorescent lighting all day. UGH.

Did yours cost a lot, PB? Oh, and how was the spa?

what are these lights you are talking about? Are you being serious or silly? Because my girlfriend gets it bad SAD too, and med's don't really work with her, she gets what she call's shifting, where her face seems to jump to the side and her vision gets blurry, it's like lag on a computer game or when a video stops then fast forwards past the sound.
So any magical depression light would be awesome, if you are serious.
if you're not serious then, lol .
(damn I still sound stupid ") )

There are definately light therapy products to help with SAD. I'm not familiar enough with them to recommend any, so I'll leave that to PB or Mira, but it definately does exist.

PB knows better than I do, they are special lights for seasonal affective disorder. They kick ass according to someone I know.

OK, I got curious. Here's a couple of links:

Tis’ the season for Seasonal Affective Disorder - World of Psychology

Light therapy Apollo light boxes for seasonal affective disorder (SAD), depression, sleep disorder or bipolar

I'd be depressed too if I were Rosie. She'd have a lot less crap bothering her if she'd stop publicly spewing negativity like she's the moral compass for America. Way more people liked her when she was doing her TV show. Before she "came out" she was much more likable to me, and that has nothing to do with her sexuality, because many suspected way before she announced it. As soon as she "came out" her personality changed for the worse. She became negative and mean spirited and confrontational about everything. She's not going to receive positive vibes if she's only offering negativity.

That's a very good point. She's too opinionated and too vocal. Need to learn when to stifle it. I don't think she will though. She's changed a lot since her talk show days.

That sounds more like a visual migraine to me. I get them occasionally.

I might try a light box next winter. I live in far north of scotland so very dark there in winter and I feel SAD every year. Where I live doesn't even have street lights...sob!

You know, Rosie gets on my nerves too, but I wouldn't dare to say that she caused her depression by being negative. I'm sorry, but I don't buy the negative vibe theory. Clinical depression is a chemical imbalance in your brain-by saying one can make ones self become depressed then you are saying that one can make themselves become undepressed. Speaking as someone who has battled depression for over 16 years, I only wish it was that easy.
Yeah, Rosie spouts off about shit that doesn't really concern her, but I don't think that she caused or deserved depression-it's not really a fun thing

I agree with you, sweetrebel. It's probably correct (and more appropriate) to say that she's clinically depressed, and being negative on top of that. People can be clinically depressed and other people don't even know it because they act nice and normal.

So much of the way we feel about people is their delivery... someone else could say the same thing with a completely different delivery and a lot of people would say "damn she's right". We're so focused on delivery that we don't hear content.
