Reason I think it's funny is because it's conviently when he has a movie coming out and this whole Mel thing is completely dominating the news--so it's almost like he has to one up or something. Though, he doesn't actually seem the type to do that, but you never know.
Good for him for getting help. Great.
And all the previous posters that stated the Mel thing is outta control are absolutely right. Come on. Guy said some very stupid shit--we all have. He drove drunk, most of us had at one time or another (admit it). And he's paying for it. I don't AGREE with what he said, but I think it's a bit overboard.

I love RW...I hope he gets better soon. He makes me laugh.
I've heard he's bipolar, one day he's joking around on the set and the next he's demanding that no one look him in the eye/talk to him whatsoever--I'm sure alcohol does not help this at all.

Anyone watch his standup? Funny, but I am just enthralled at watching him sweat and it dripping off of him and his shirt literally dripping at the hem. 
Anyway, good for him in trying to reclaim his sobriety. 20 years is a long time to maintain sobriety, hope he finds it again. He is incredibly talented.
