There's a huge difference because Paris is WHITE and the rappers are BLACK. Now I hate that rappers over-use the word nigga in their music, primarily because most of the people listening to it are white suburban kids who then pick up on it and start using the word too. And I've even heard white kids calling each other nigga, which I find interesting.

And the word nigger originated as a racial slur by whites at the height of the slave trade, survived through the Civil War, Reconstruction, Jim Crow segregation, the Civil Rights Movement, and beyond. So, that's why all hell breaks loose when a white person uses nigga or nigger. Because even if a white person doesn't mean it as a slur, the fact that they said it brings out a visceral reaction because of the history.

But, then again, I don't see why any white person, who isn't a racist, would want to use the word 'nigger', anyway. True, black people shouldn't use the word either, and I try not to use it myself, but like many groups who internalize a slur if you're part of the group you can say it because it doesn't carry the same meaning as it would if someone outside the group uses it.

Exactly. Even if it's not meant as a racial slur, if you know it could be taken that way, why say it?

As for Paris, it wasn't the reformation promised, but there were a few baby steps with ditching the contacts and whispery talk. I thought it was over- the-top ridiculous she denied any drug use ever, but maybe she's too busy memorizing her favoite Bible passage to remember.

I do wish that de-lish Anderson Cooper would've interviewed her - he would've eviscerated her.

Because white people should not be able to say that word, it is used as an insult. WHen black people say it they are making it their word, and taking the power away from it. It makes perfect sense to me..

Sweetie, as someone said before, due to the history of the word (you know that whole ''slavery/segregation/lynching thingy'' that happened ''soooooo'' many years ago); white people should avoid using it.

Your whole ‘well black people use it so big deal’ reason still does not make it a good idea for any white person to call a black person a nigga or nigger. Most black people will probably feel more offended if a white person calls then a nigga or nigger than if a black person does.

The word nigga when used among black people has a different meaning then when it was first used as nigger. The point is, whether that makes sense to you are not, when black people use it among each other most times it is understood and many cases accepted.

Today they are still many white people who use the word nigger or nigga in the exact same way it was used in its heyday. Therefore when a white person uses it, there’s always going to be the question of intent.
