I have been to a boarding school in my country and all I can tell you is this is the norm for boarding schools in africa. Whether parents or kids like it, it is the norm.
So I understand if the headofficers are Africans that they would implement the same rules as in all boarding schools in country.

Yeah, it sounds as if there is a transition period, which is never easy or fun. It does sound strict, but there are good reasons for most of it. The rest, I dunno...

Well, I'm usually not one to take up for Oprah, but aren't these kids getting a good education and opportunites they might not be exposed to otherwise? The parents may whinge and moan about their kids being denied their treats, but at least these girls will develop good eating habits by snacking on fruit and yogurt instead of candy bars and potato chips.

ITA. It really makes me sick how some people immediately jump on the hate bandwagon.

Exactly Mrs. Echo...
And Oprah cant just say something on her talk show like:
"Well, if I didnt fund/build/care about providing this school for education *they* (11 & 12-year olds - b/c they know everything about life....) wouldnt have ANYTHING to bitch about..."
