I understand all that - my point was that a lot of white people are completely ignorant of black culture and the 'black experience' in general (just as straight people have no clue about the 'gay experience') and so when they hear black/gay comedians (for example) using language that has to be used in very specific circumstances for it to be acceptable they wrongly assume it's OK for them to use that language too.

This MR jerk doesn't have that excuse because he works in an environment where he fully understands the nuances of language. Like I say, he looks like he's having some kind of drug-fuelled psychotic episode which is no excuse either, but I really don't think he was in full control of his faculties at the time.

Either way, his career is OVAH.

I've never been on this side of the argument before, but here goes. There IS a double standard with the dreaded N word, but this is not a simple case of derogatory racial terms. Have we forgotten slavery, here? It was just a few generations ago. The word nigger was used in the most degrading of ways during those times, so when a white person says it now, it conjures up a huge pandora's box of nastiness.

Sorry, but I personally do not want to see the day when it's acceptable for a white person to use that word again. This is simply not comparable to other examples of racial slurs in modern society.

And I will repeat something I said last night: There is a difference between the way the world OUGHT to be (i.e., fair, respectable, tolerant) and the way is IS (i.e., double standards, unfair, intolerant). So if you're white, and you think you can be funny and/or effect social change with your act by using the word nigger in the US of A, then by all means, go bust your move. But please do not cry & sniffle & beg forgiveness afterwards when people don't like it, because you fucking well KNEW they wouldn't.

And again, I repeat, this incident was not part of his act! Richard Pryor & Lenny Bruce did their act, good, bad & ugly, for what it was worth. MR erupted in a racist rage. He is freaking out & remorseful now because he lost control of himself, and exposed the secret that he had no intention of exposing.

Isn't there a blind item somewhere from way back that talked about a rabidly (like KKK crazy) racist comedian/actor from a popular TV show? I seem to remember that people guessed it was the Seinfeld show but the top guess actor was Jason Alexander.

I wouldn't call it rage. More like a rational analysis of a topic that is generally approached with full-on hysteria. I understand that in the media frenzy that has resulted because of this incident, and Richards' UNACCEPTABLE behavior as I'ver previously noted, any response other than an emotional lynch mob reaction is seen as condoning the act, or as "white rage," but I humbly beg to differ.
