Christcheeyuns aren't perfect, they're forgiven. Particularly the ones with lots of disposible cash for things like new churches and gold plated miters.

I agree with the posters who have said that people who are in the throes of alcohol or drug addiction will say things they really do not mean, and do things they never thought they could sink low enough to do. However, I do not believe that this is the case with Mel. I pretty much think he is just simply a bigot and an asshole and the 'lubrication' provided by the alcohol just let the venom that has always been inside slip out. He has a long history of bigoted remarks regarding a number of groups..particularly lesbians for some reason. I have sympathy for his being an alcoholic; I have no sympathy for his being a bigot and an asswipe.

The thing that bugs me most about his "apology" is that if you notice he carefully avoids mentioning anything about his anti semitic remarks.

This to me is quite disturbing, I like Mel and his movie roles but if this is the truth of his character, it is bad.

I also noticed he didn't aplogize for his anti-semetic remarks. I also have a ton of alcoholics in my family. 3 out of 5 siblings and 5 out of 7 nieces and nephews. Also my mom, so I know how they behave. None of them have ever made bigoted remarks unless they were bigoted. I will accept hisapologyfor his behavior,but neverfor his remarks.

Well, I've had uncles say shit like "You're a little bitch" to their own daughters and they've said HORRIBLE things they never would've said sober. Drunk women go, get plastered and wake up with strange men and do things they never would've done otherwise....drunks say and do a lot of stupid crap they are totally unaware of. I don't think it has any rhyme or reason to it and it's not fair to say that's the way they really are sober. It's not them, it's the liquor.

When you're drunk the things you think but would never say come out because the filter between your brain and your mouth has gone on the blink. This isn't the first time Mel has been shown to be an anti-semite and I'm sure it won't be the last. But my favorite part of this whole thing is him calling the cop 'sugar tits'. I guess he has women issues as well. Someone book him a cave.
