ummmm interesting what he said may be quite different from what he's actually feeling. I think his full of BS, he's probably reeling from declining that role because the movie turned out so successful.
I don't think his racist, he's just silly. His worked with some Asian dude in the Replacement Killers and his brother Donnie sang a duet with a Japanese chick ages ago...that my opinion anyway

I felt bad for him during the Oscars that they mentioned how many times he was arrested in Boston during his youth. He didn't look thrilled to be reminded so publically.
|
He's mentioned it so often in interviews and went into such detail about it on his episode of "Inside the Actor's Studio" that I don't think it bothers him to be reminded. He also tries to give back to inner city communities, give back for his past infractions, via The Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation .

If he got a part on Brokeback would he have played Heaths role? Oh anyway, did anyone see him in ROckstar? That was (to me ) brilliant and Mark was the total rock God. Jennifer Anniston didnt shine so bright though.

That is reality....not everyone is going to be comfortable with gays, lesbians or other races from their own....the sooner people realize this, the better.

Uh-huh. Damn where did those Jim Crow laws go.
Oooh, I hear Kmart is having a blue light special on white sheets.

Brothel: That comment doesn't necessarily mean that the author subscribes to thos beliefs. I also do not subscribe to those beliefs but I am aware that many people do and always will, and we cannot force people to think as we would like them to. As distasteful as those folks may be, I really don't want to live in a world where people think it's okay to force a belief system on anybody, ao I'll take the good witht he bad because ultimately that is what the human condition is made of. I believe in doing what I can to make positive changes and everyone has the power to make their corner of the world a bit better. Yet there will always be hate, sickness, death, drought, and everything else whether we like it or not. It's the whole ying/yang thing.

No need to back out. Your opinions are as valid as anyone else's and there is no reason not to express how things other people say make you feel.

Or the sooner homophobes get over it, the better. Gay people are no different than straight people, so what the heck is there to be phobic of?
I often think that men who are this uptight or "uncomfortable" with gay men are uncomfortable with it because they are gay -- but in this case I think he's just insecure. I find it quite sad when straight men are so insecure they can't even stand to be around gay men -- or in this case, pretend to be one as if it somehow makes him gay.

Oh how thrilling!!!!!!Thanks for the info....guess I better rush to Kmart before all the good whites sheets are taken (emphasis on the whitest sheets).
On a brighter note, I am a realist and tend to see the different sides of life however I do not recall mentioning that I shared these beliefs. As undesirable at it may seem, all negative beliefs or acts balances out the world (ying-yang). This is never going to change no matter on efforts put to make it otherwise. For instances; poverty/wealth, good/bad, war/peace, life/death, female/male, young/old, illness/health, hunger/satiety, etc.

Thank you crumpet - ITA…
I personally am not outraged about his comments, but rather the lack of justice for his previous crimes. Look, Mark’s white & so I am - I don’t know really how he was raised & the morals he was taught - but I do know mine. My family beat it into my brain throughout my entire life to NEVER hurt someone unless they were trying to hurt you for no reason - and just because you are gay or Asian means exactly that. How can you CHOSE to hurt/kill a person because of the something they had no hand in choosing?
And frankly being WHITE comes (or should come) with the knowledge that everything you do and say can be easily turned into you being “racist” or a “bigot” - whether or not you meant it the way it was interpreted or not. So, despite how you may personally feel, or based on some things you may have said - anyone can say you are homophobic or a racist. Sometimes that can be a rough burden to bare, especially if you are sincerely not being a bigot or racist.
BUT THE MOMENT you decide to go out of your way JUST TO BEAT THE SHIT out of a guy, for being Asian/gay/just speaking with a decent accent the you, you are committing a crime - and that is WRONG & you should be held accountable for your actions against an innocent human being who maybe didn’t feel like losing his fucking eye or dying that day.
^ At least that is what I was taught to believe

Agree with him or not, he gave an honest answer instead of some rehearsed, politically-correct BS response. There are probably a lot of celebs who are racist or homophobic, but they lie and tell us what we want to hear.
