That is reality....not everyone is going to be comfortable with gays, lesbians or other races from their own....the sooner people realize this, the better.
And the sooner people realize that they sound ignorant when they say they aren't comfortable with gays, lesbians and people of other races the better.

Fine that he didn't want the part, but he's spouted off enough about his racist, bigoted past.

Racist, homophobic, intolerant fucks have the right to their opinions and have the right to refuse to take jobs, but that doesn't make them any less racist, homophobic, and intolerant. The sooner they educate themselves, the better.

A man best known for posing in his underpants has said that he is glad he was not chosen as one of the leads in Brokeback Mountain.

So are we Wahlberg!

Uhhh speak for yourself!
And not wanting to do a gay love scene doesn't make you homophobic. He just didn't feel comfortable, big whoop.

HOWEVER, he didn't have to say he was freaked out by it. He didn't have to give a reason as to why he turned it down. Sounds like he just wants to sound 'macho'.

That is reality. Like I said, there are people who still are not fully comfortable with other races (minorities such as blacks, latinas, asians, etc), homosexual relationships, perphaps the overweight/obese as well. And there are others that do not verbalize on their prejudice but their actions says other wise. Sometimes these people can not be fully blame for their prejudice, sometimes it is due to nurture (the type of household they were raised as a child).

Education is very enpowering. Some people of prejudice nature are rather rigid about their beliefs and prefer not to think otherwise.

I would love to guest star on the L word but oddly enough i'm not bi-sexual or lesbian but for that much money and the fact that I love the show, i'd be the next Portia de Rossi on screen. Marky Mark's an idiot for turning down the movie, and if someone were to argue that he's not homophobic it would be useless. He lost out on millions of dollars, Brokeback Mountain was an award winning movie. What would drive someone to do that? Either way, it was his loss. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaul did an excellent job. On the other hand, Marky Mark is also not as high paid of an actor as the others, that could of had something to do with it. Every celebrity has a price, but some of them just aren't worth what they're asking.

Yes that was horrible. He beat the guy so bad his eye fell out or something. That was not his only anti asian/minority activities. This guy was a nasty thug.

I know the marky mark fan bunch out there are like, "oh, that was so long ago the past is the past, blah blah," but IMO he is still a major POS.

Read this excerpt from the ABC News 'candid chat' with wahlberg:

ABC News: A Candid Chat With Mark Wahlberg

The rage he channeled for the role comes from a very personal place — the tough streets he was raised on in Dorchester, Mass. He led a life characterized by incidents of petty crime, drug dealing and racism.
He harassed a group of African American school kids with racist epithets, and when he was 16, again using racist language, he attacked a middle-aged Vietnamese man and left the man blind in one eye. Wahlberg was arrested for attempted murder, plead guilty to assault, and spent 45 days in jail.
And though the right thing to do would be to try to find the man and make amends, Wahlberg says, he admits he hasn't done so — but says he's no longer burdened by guilt.
"I did a lot of things that I regretted and I certainly paid for my mistakes," Wahlberg says. "You have to go and ask for forgiveness and it wasn't until I really started doing good and doing right, by other people as well as myself, that I really started to feel that guilt go away. So I don't have a problem going to sleep at night. I feel good when I wake up in the morning."

(basically, translating his double speak, he's saying that he never gave a shyte about him then or now, I'm sure the victims of his foolishness have long gone cuz I would have sued his pompous ass)

Well you know if he was arrested for attempted murder..IT WAS attempted murder..he just plea bargained down and used the system to get the assault charge. And he blinded a guy. In the commission of an attempted murder that was also a hate crime. And he has not even attempted to make amends. And thinks that is perfectly fine. And he is a GIANT AND RAGING ASSHOLE PIECE OF SHIT.

*Maybe some enraged bigoted gay Vietnamese guy will try to kill him and will succeed in putting out one of HIS eyes. Lets see about the forgiveness then...*
