I agree--It's in poor taste, plain & simple. Not that i think being a lesbian is a *taboo subject* or anything like that--I'm the proud sister of a lesbian--but a person's sexuality is a very personal issue, and more importantly, Marcia Cross IS NOT A LESBIAN--end of story!!--so WHY is this issue being discussed YET AGAIN??!!? Just a poor attempt by Old Babs to have a *titilating, sensational* issue brought up on her show, to gain attention. I remember when the rumors surfaced that "someone from the Desperate Housewives show" was going to come out of the closet. And people speculated that it was Marcia Cross who was gay. This was like a year and a half ago, or more. And at the time, Marcia came right out and denied that she was gay. I remember her "making the rounds" at talkshows and in magazine interviews and whatnot...very bluntly (but tactfully) completely dispelling the gay rumors. In fact i remember thinking at the time that she handled the whole thing with class and that she must be sick of the issue by now. So, for Barbara Walters, who is supposedly (or i should say, at one time WAS) a serious journalist, to drag out these old *titillating* gossipy rumors on a televised TV show, IS in poor taste, and shows poor judgement. But good judgement is something that the elderly Babs seems to be sadly losing these days.

(WARNING: Long rant, about my personal opinion.) I personally think Old Babs, once a great journalist, is starting to show signs that she's "losing it". I see signs of senility creeping in. For example, every year i watch the "Pre-Oscars Barbaba Walters Special" where she interviews some of the Oscar nominees the night before (or a few nights before) the Oscar ceremony. Well, this year, not only did she NOT have interviewees of the usual high caliber (for example, the top draw of this year's show was MARIAH CAREY--???--who's not even an actor, let alone an Oscar nominee!), and it was downright painful watching Babs interview Mariah, Babs was so incompetent & "out of it"....For example, I remember she dragged out the extremely OLD issue of Mariah having a sister that is a drug addict & prostitute who is HIV-positive. (*OOOOH what a shocker! What great TV!!*--major sarcasm) This is majorly old news. (I remember reading an article about this sad issue when i was in high school....and i'm 28 now.) It was cringe-inducing, watching Babs bring up such an OLD, but more importantly, PAINFUL subject for poor Mariah to have to go through discussing YET AGAIN, just for the sake of having something *titillating & sensational* to talk about. She said, with such extreme (false) seriousness and cringe-inducingly-extreme mock-empathy in her best *serious journalist asking a tough question voice*, "That must be painful for you, having a sister who is a prostitute and drug addict?" Even my mother (who has no clue about celebrity news & issues) shouted, "Give me a BREAK!!! What do you think, Barbara, that it's FUN having a sister that's an HIV-positive prostitute?!!!!?? Good grief, this is SICKENING!!! Plus, this is old news; why is Barbara bringing up this old tired subject, especially one that's so painful for Mariah???". Mariah handled it all with class, but i really cringed while watching Old Babs, who is so obviously suffering the effects of old age, try to conduct an *interesting* interview, and struggle mightily. Time to hang up your mike, Babs. Your glory days as a serious journalist, have passed.

Amen. Babs days are numbered ,and her attempt to become tabloid bcuz no one cares what she has to say anymore is pathetic. The View...cancelled after this next season. Her, retired and never heard from again.

The show this occurred on aired in February 2006, but Marcia's true feelings about Barbara are supposedly recent.

Did you guys see when Babs grabbed Brandy's hair and asked her if it was real. I was like "Hell, no you do not ask a black woman if her hair is real" It was so rude. I hate Brandy but, I could tell that she was embarassed. Everyone already knows that she wears a weave.

I don't think Barbara is going anywhere. If she's made it in this business as long as she has with that speech impediment, she's gonna be ok. I don't particularly like her (at all) but she's a reporter. They don't all work for the Disney channel. It isn't always about asking someone what makes them feel good. It's about asking what the public wants to know on occasion. We have the right to ask if the president gets blow jobs, why not ask Marcia if she likes muff-diving??

Weeeellll...it would be in poor taste if we asked the president if his wife gives him a blow job, and I don't think we have the right to ask that. A president is an elected official, however, whereas a celeb is not. Elected officials are held to a higher standard morally by their constituency (as are those in the clergy), because they are placed in positions of power and authority and are supposed to be representing regular folks. The same can't be said for movie/TV stars. So anyway, if a president decides to cheat on his wife, a lot of people out there think that's wrong and that he should be called out on the carpet for it. But in general, what people do sexually behind closed doors is their own business. I don't think it's appropriate to ask anyone about their sexual preferences, gay or straight, what position they like, whether they give oral sex, whether they like S&M, whatever. It's all private. So I feel like it would've gotten that point across had Marcia asked an extremely personal question of Barb in return.
