I'm just saying that as nutty as Scientology is, they haven't cornered the market on out-there religious beliefs. Christians believe in more than the virgin birth. They believe in wine turning to water (how I wish!), resurection, parting of seas, etc. To me it's all a bunch of fantasy. Maybe I'm wrong. Who knows? Nobody, really.

She's not Mrs. Cruise though and I highly doubt they will ever get married. I really don't see what is in it for her at this point.
I sure wouldn't want the world thinking that freakjob was my child's father, and I wouldn't want him/her anywhere near that farce of a 'religion' either.

crazy they may be, but most religions do have some sort of history to them, spanning thousands of years. What's the history of Scientology? Founded by some Science-fiction writer? I mean come ON, there's the first suspicious aspect!

LOL I'm taking the Scientology personality test. These are my favorite questions..
Would you prefer to be in a position without the responsibilities of decision making?
Are you perturbed at the idea of loss of dignity?

Katie Homes seems like she is very immature to begin with. Every time you see her picture she has that stupid looking smile on her face. I think the romance is a sham. If he is so in love with her why marry before the baby is born?

I want to try and get a "you dont need any help at all!" result. I bet it doesn't exist.

I've heard that they brainwash people and tell them that they are geniuses and that they are special. I've also heard that they give them a test and that they go away for like two weeks for who knows what.

So in a couple thousand years the suspension of rational thought in regard to the beliefs of the Scientologists will make more sense? Christianity requires one to do exactly the same thing. It only seems less *out there* because it's been around longer. What were the qualifications of the writers of the bible that lend more credibility than a modern day Science fiction writer?

Perhaps authenticity is not the issue. For any text to be written seriously, it needs to remain consistent and not be changed. The founder was an author first before making the religion, correct? So if you write ideas down and present them as stories, then go back and say its divinely inspired, there's a contradiction right there.

Not to mention that most churches don't require that you severe ties with your family and friends. They also don't take you away from your life for weeks at a time to reprogram you. And while donations to keep the church afloat are asked for, I don't know of anyone who has had undo pressure placed on them to give to the church. I just think there are leaps and bounds you'd have to cross to say Scientology is similar to most religions.

We also have to remember that there's a distinction bewteen a religion and a cult. I think to some extent there is brainwashing involved in both. But a cult has such control, such power over its followers, that they can't even live normal lives. Much less try to 'escape'. I'm sure Katie had a much easier time walking away from Catholicism (simply quit going to church!) than she'll have trying to run away from the nightmare she's currently immersed in.

my friend's bro is a Scientologist and they ask for a ridiculous amount of money. he works for them but they take most of his money (well coerce him into donating it) to pay for expensive classes etc and so you get quite hooked in. it's hard to believe that the crux of the religion/cult demands such extreme monetary and time commitments.

L. Ron Hubbard once famously said that whilst you can earn good money as a writer, if you want to make some serious dough all you have to do is to start a religion.

I am looking forward to the day when Scientology is publicly revealed as a cult and denounced.
