You know, if you are dumb enough to say something like that in public, don't compound the mistake by saying it again...when cameras are rolling. Dumbass.

Seriously, in this day and age, people are not going to tolerate this type of behavior. Those of you who think he should not have been fired--if a school teacher had said it or a judge, some of the same people who think IW should be cut a break would be up in arms. Or if someone went after a racial group or religious group, again, those arms would be all up! Hate speech is hate speech. Saying that it is one thing to use the N-word and another to call someone a "fag" in my opinion is bigotry. Hide behind religion all you want, but hate speech is hate speech.

What he said was wrong and I sincerely hope this makes other dipshits think twice before opening their gobs and spewing hate.

i can almost excuse him losing his temper and calling the guy a fag or whatever. shit happens. most people are guilty of making inappropriate remarks in a rage. but bringing it up on that awards show in front of all those people is inexcusable. emabrassing the poor actor like that. he just sounds like a total asshole. what did he think? people would laugh, surely he must have been drunk.
i don't watch the show but it seems all this backstage drama is going to ruin it anyway.
ii don't really see why you think doing coke justifies firing but slurs do not. seems the other way around to me. modern thought seems to think addiction is a disease.

^^^And that's what screwed him. When he said it on the set, it had already blown over. But once he repeated it at the Golden Globes, he just reignited the controversy and sealed his own fate.

When I saw him make that statement at the Globes, I thought,"Dude, your career is so over!"

I can't believe people are defending this guy! He totally deserved this. I don't get what's his problem? Calling someone else a fag makes him manlier?

Well actually someone in the press room ASKED the question and he said I didnt call TR a faggot. He didnt bring it up, he was denying it was used the way the reporter asked, and my big question is how come Patrick who it was supposedly said to and TR heard it, how come he was STICKING up for IW after Isasiah came back from rehab? Saying he loved working with him and all that jazz, and so did the other important members of the cast. He NEVER once said anything about TR.

Plus with all this stuff about Heigal acting like a diva, and demanding MORE then Patrick and Ellen the STARS of the show, because of one hit movie. This show is so going to implode in a year or two if it isnt already, especially since before the firing they had 4 people from the cast saying EVERYONE would be back and Ellen Pompeo said on Seacrest she had NO idea that this was happening and was just as shocked as everyone else, when she got the call.

I hope IW sues ABC because they made him do all that shit (not that he shouldnt have) under the guise he still have the job as Preston Burke now they took it away without any warning. He cant even audition for another tv show since Pilot season is done.

^^^But even though the reporter asked him the question, the fact that he repeated the slur in front of T.R., and everyone else, is where he screwed up. He should've just said "No, I didn't use any kind of slur."

But I do agree that he should sue ABC for making him do all of the rehab/counseling crap and PR stuff, only to turn around and fire him anyway. They should have told him in advance that they were going to let him go, and then he could have been lining something else up.

Maybe they've wanted to get rid of him anyway. I've read that he's a hot tempered asshole who's fought with McDreamy and McSteamy. I've also read that a few years ago, some crew guy from a movie he was in, had to take a restraining order out against IW. He sunk his career through stupidity and bad behavior.

On a serious note, I'm glad he's not going to be receiving anymore paychecks from GA. He seems like a complete douchebag and the fact that he said that word a SECOND time in front of press (for whatever reason) really blows my mind. What an idiot. However he is an essential character so the show will have to work it out next season.

Exactly. I know I wouldn't be stupid enough to repeat a slur in public that had already gotten me in trouble in private.

I think he probably deserved to be fired. The thing that sucks is that ABC didn't have any balls about it. They should have fired him right after he said it the first time, or after he brought it up at the Globes.

To allow the other actors to speak about it in public (I liked Katherine H at one point but she needs to shut it too), make him work with gay/bisexual groups, make a PSA and publically apologize and THEN fire him? That's shitty. He probably doesn't deserve better but I'd have more respect for ABC if they fired him on the spot.
