^Same here. I dont HATE kids, but I could never be in a profession that involved looking after them; eg teacher, child care, etc. No thanks. Plus my mother always told me I wouldn't have kids because I'm too selfish; which is true. I like to make my own money and spend my own money, kids demand alot, especially in todays world.

Always?? Uhm....again....you're in high school! You are still a kid.

And about the getting old thing. Having kids is no guarantee that someone is going to be there to take care of you when you're old! Frankly, I don't want my son to have to worry about being my caretaker and/or being a strain on his finances when I'm too old and feeble to manage for myself.

Yeah, but other people have at sometime in their life wanted kids, I never have. It might not seem like much, but being the only girl around you who doesn't go all AWWWWW everytime they see a small child is kind of a sign.

I won't have time, either. I want to have a career as a Criminal or Corporate Lawyer and it's something that involves a lot of travel. I won't have time for a child. But I don't ever want one anyway. I've never been into children or babies or taking care of other organisms. That's why I don't have any pets; taking care of something else isn't something I enjoy doing.

Like StayYoung said, I'm too selfish. I can't share my life with something else. It's my life, I'll live it how I want. That involves not having kids.

I'm not making fun of you (as a matter of fact, you sound like you've got a good head on your shoulders) but you are very young. It's great if you never do have children (you certainly shouldn't be having them now) and it's great if you do but you're just a child. I'm 34 now with *ahem* four kids but I remember not wanting children for the longest time, especially when I was 17.

Changing - I am going to give you the same advice I will give my girls when they are your age.

Get on Birth Control, explore your possibilites and THEN make decisions.

You shouldn't even be concerned with children or care taking right now. You should be concerned with getting into college or getting to the next party.

I'm glad she's saying it loud and clear because too many people try to be coy about it (we aren't ready, it wouldn't be fair to the baby because we are so busy, blah, blah, blah) to avoid getting blasted by idiots who act like you are Satan incarnate just because you enjoy not being a parent.

Yeah, I'm really careful about sex. Birth control pill, patch, AND condems. I also get checked for STD's at my doctor's office. So far, so good. I'm definitely thinking about school before anything else. It's just that everyone around me loves kids and I'm like "Uh...don't let it touch me". I just can't handle one. Some girls are so confused over what they want. I know what I want, and I know there's room for change, but I try to be as fair to myself as possible. I mean, right now, I don't want kids, so if I have a future boyfriend and he talks about kids, I'll tell him I don't plan on any.

My sister had a baby at 15 and then again at 19, so my parents kind of expected the same for me. It's been hard trying to get through to them that I'm not like her. Plus, I try to do what's best for myself. Kids aren't good for me. They really would stop me from doing what I want to do, so, as it is, I'm talking an anti-baby stance.

Hey, it's better than going all Britney Spears on everyone and having baby after baby.

^Same here! My Dad used to say, 'if you're going to sleep around and get pregnant, dont tell us. Just go outside and dig your grave.

Well, I'm the opposite. I don't have kids yet, but I DO want them one day. If I never had children in my lifetime, I think that would bother me. I think I'd regret not ever having kids. I do want to know what it's like to be a mother and I do want children. Marriage, however, is another story. I don't feel I need marriage to 'complete' me or make me feel fulfilled. It would be nice, but it's not something I'm actively looking for. If it happened great, but if I never married, I'd be okay with that too. I love men, but don't really need a contract for him to 'stay' or validate our relationship---but children, yeah, I would need that---definitely.

To each their own, I guess.
