Default Britt Ekland considered euthanizing her sick mother

Quote:
Former JAMES BOND girl BRITT EKLAND once considered letting her mother freeze to death, because watching her suffer from Alzheimer's disease was so painful.

Ekland, the former wife of PETER SELLERS and ex-girlfriend of ROD STEWART, briefly toyed with the option of euthanasia to end her mum MAR-BRITT's suffering.

The 63-year-old, a campaigner for Alzheimer's Society, says, "Near the end I seriously thought about taking her for a long drive, opening the windows to the icy Swedish air and letting nature take its course.

"It may sound strange but when she died it was almost a relief - to finally be able to grieve, to let go and plan a beautiful funeral.

"Through the 11 torturous years she was ill I felt totally helpless, so I've made it my duty to spread awareness of the disease that ravaged her."

I feel awful for anyone who has to watch a loved one go through a terrible illness. I can certainly see how one would consider euthanasia. Both my parents were sick for a long time before they died, so their deaths did bring a sense of relief because they were released from their suffering. I imagine that is what Ekland's talking about.

I think I just read she wanted to do the same thing to Rod Stewart?

Well I was under the impression if you are freezing to death you get very very tired and just basically fall asleep and never wake up? Now falling into a frozen lake I dont think the endorphins are kicking in but what do I know?

however, before freezing to death, you have a long period of intense uncomfortability....just imagine going outside and freezing to death yourself. aren't you frickin miserable for a long while before you get even close to dying? so no, freezing to death is not kind or merciful at all.

I say anyone who is going throught those stages of death should be helped along. It is dehumanizing, demoralizing, disgusting and unneccessary. And that goes for alzheimers as well.

I'm always amazed at people being all for their pets being "put out of their misery" by vets, because they can't bear to see them suffer, yet when it comes to human suffering because of extreme pain or illness, they claim no man should decide on ending another person's life

It makes as much sense as the pro-life idiots who assassinate doctors who work at abortion clinics

Euthenasia, following strict guidelines, is a very humane option to end unneccesary suffering of people who have no chance of recovery.
