Well any part of the world is a target, but the question is why would it be a target?

It would be a target because it would be full of rich westerners and celebs, billionaires, etc. and is sitting right in the Persian Gulf within easy reach of Muslim Extremists. The standard of living there is pretty high(in the UAE).

IMO it would be wrong for any country do do it, I don't know where you saw an attack on "third world countries".
There are places on earth in need of development, of protection (ancient forests, seas and rivers, for example), of technical help... I think it's where money should be put into first, not into building fancy islands. BTW, do we know the effects of such a "construction" on the sea currents, on the local fauna?

How do you make a man made island? Was it one big island before and chopped up to make individual islands? Or did they haul in tons of soil and plop it down and hope it stays afloat? Sorry, this is confusing to me.

I don't know about all man made islands, but the palm tree shaped islands ( http://realestate.theemiratesnetwork...lm_islands.php )that are already off Dubai have some problems with the water currents. If I remember it correctly, the water was getting caught up around the fronds and getting nasty.

Nature is not something to be creative with IMO. Delicate and unique equilibriums have been reached over maybe hundreds of milleniums, and here comes a millionaire and decides it's going to be otherwise, and sells it under an humanitarian label. These people need to be stopped!
Besides, if you are very rich and want to do something generous for mankind, do you really need a counterpart you can own, like in this case a preposterous bit of land? What happened to disinterested money giving? Oh, true, that's what us common people do with our savings... celebs know better

^^the buildings they have designed for those Palm islands look ridiculous..especially the palm Trump tower..it is going to be 1100 feet of utter hideousness..this whole idea of these artificial islands is just bonkers and wasteful IMO. I hope Jolie's island gets infested with tons of native critters and varmints and becomes uninhabitable.

Dubai is full of westerners and rich people and never been a target because so far the country has not pissed off any group AND is keeping tight security around potential targets. Hopefully it will always be a safe country. Besides most extremists, i'd assume you mean terrorists, are 'cave poeple' they don't possess nukes.

No I considered your wish for global warmings to make these islands disappear under water, very unpleasant and hostile. You know some people are going to live there. It's your opinion if you don't like the idea of man-made islands, i think it's great that UAE is investing in its tourism sector and employs creative-strategic-thinking of attracting tourists and foreign investors. UAE is the only country in the region that doesn't rely completely on the income of oil, so they have to come up with new ways to attract investment. Palm-tree island is almost done and so far it's mesmerising and so dreamy. The other islands are still in progress and will take long time to be completed.

Besides i don't think man-made islands are as worrying as oil refinery process, nuclear energy (which countries like France test it on islands) or chemical factories which are polluting the earth with dangerous toxics and radiations causing fatal diseases.

Those islands were not part of the nature, they are man-made. You can be creative all you want, is not like you are destroying something.

They weren't there and nothing was chopped or whatever. They hauled in tons of soil and plop it down and this is not the first time they employ this process, the emirate of Abu Dhabi was elongated using this method 20 years ago. Burj Al-Arab (the luxurious hotel) is on a small man-made island. So this method is not new at all.

Exactly all the spots you mentioned were not man-made islands and apart from Bali, were in countries that involved in attacking Iraq. What i am trying to say terrorists can attack anywhere they want so man-made islands are not exceptional. As long as governments don't get involved in dirty policies or wars or whatever, they are more likely to protect their civilians from such attacks.

I'm not underestimating terrorists' acts, but it was not me who said they were 'cave people' in Afghanistan, but the Bush admin. Didn't they report they found some 'self-help book "how to fly a plane" in the car parked at the airport in which the terrorists took off? if that is not silly then i don't know what. But regarding nukes i am not naive to believe that people who train in caves are capable of getting nuke suitcase unless of course they have agents within the countries with nukes.

Oh for god's sake. If there's anything we should have learned by now, it's that if even half these stories were true, Angelina would own half the planet. They've had her buying like 17 different properties around the globe in the last year... I seriously doubt it.

She is now... she made $21 on Mr and Mrs Smith, I believe. But she doesn't have the money to buy everything they're claiming she's buying... it's impossible. She supposedly bought that $25mil chateau, and this $25mil island, within the span of 2-3 months? Yeah right.

I don't really understand what the big deal is though... isn't it just a piece of land? Just like if she bought a piece of land anywhere else? I don't know what they're going on about with the fair trade nonsense... it's not like it's going to be a real country.
