I'm not either, but that Red guy didn't seem impaired to me. Just strange. They were pretty nice to the chubby guy, and a few others.

That's probably why they always look so shocked when they are told no. They are not searching for the next great talent, they are looking for people to make look like assholes.

I bet they edit out the part where they are screaming as they are dragged out, "But you said I had a chance, you said I was talented, you said I had a whole shitload of talent, now you say Im just a shitload?????You gotta be kidding me........???????WAAAAAAAH"

I have been watching it from the beginning and this season really touched a nerve in me. They just let some of this drag out way too long to the point where I was uncomfortable watching anymore. I hope this is the last of making fun of people who clearly have some sort of disability.

I don't think they are too mean. They are mean but the people go on that show and know how those judges can be. They ask for it sometimes. The reason I don't go or never will go on American Idol is b/c I know I would get my feelings hurt. ha.

It's too painfully mean spirited to watch any longer.

They do say harsh things about peoples looks. They should judge voices not looks. It's not a beauty pageant!

Making fun of a persons physical appearance is over the top for this or any show.

Having seen the show and then thinking you have a chance when you look like a genetic accident is either sheer stupidity, delusion, or wanting your 2 minutes of fame.

You're right. Kellie Pickler is co-hosting The View this week and she's been making the talk-show rounds. She is talented and adorable (very likable). There's Kimberly Locke and Bo Bice who would probably have a better career if he weren't having so many health issues, and others I'm not remembering right now.

Ok, I don't think the show is too mean. These people have seen the show, they KNOW how Simon is. That's what they want.
Plus, Rosie should shut up about being too mean and picking on people's physical appearance - wasn't it her making fun of Donald Trump's comb-over just last week?

Or you could be borderline retarded or have schizophrenia. My point is some of these people have some kind of problem, be it mental and/or physical with NO singing ability. So why even let them get that far? For the entertainment factor. Joy, from the View, was comparing it to the freak shows that the circus used to have. It's exactly that. They're let through to make fun of them.
I'm fine with people who seem mostly mentally competant going through this, but these some of these people weren't. The guy in the red shirt was the exception. I just felt badly for him because I'm sure he's heard comments like that all his life. It just seemed unnecessarily cruel. I wonder what Pauler, Randy and Simon would think if an unstable contestant killed themselves after their ridicule?

About it being too mean, I think that Simon goes too far sometimes. But like someone already said, every single person who signs up for this goes in knowing that rejection & harsh criticism is a possibility. The ones who get the worst of it are the arrogant ones who refuse to accept that they're being turned down. If you suck, and you get mouthy when they say no, then don't get your feelings hurt when they tell you exactly why you're not going to Hollywood.
Looks are part of it. I'm not entirely crazy about the fact that Simon called the guy a "bush baby" (although the name itself has always been funny to me for some weird reason ) but if you don't look like a pop star, chances are you won't become a pop star. Sometimes they're wrong - Simon was very wrong about Taylor Hicks, and Reuben Studdard doesn't look like the typical pop star (although some may argue that he hasn't ultimately been very successful). But these people who are downright unattractive & talentless who act like they're gorgeous & all that, well, they need to be told the TRUTH.
I understand that this is not everybody's idea of entertainment, and I wouldn't watch the show either, if it consisted entirely of bad auditions & rejections, but to me, it's just part of a process that I really enjoy. By the time we get to the top 10, I feel like I've been part of the journey for these kids.

I agree with you.. Simon is being his usual self. You either hate him or your love him. Last season people were saying, "you just got to love Simon with his critics and all." and its true, some people go to a.i. auditions, to be on camera or give a piece of their mind to Simon when they are being told they sucked.
Overall, I enjoyed watching the show. I think, the auditions can be funny, and I don't understand, why people that cannot sing, still show up and make an ass of themself. Who said that getting into Hollywood will be a nice, fun ride???? Its not, you do meet mean people that put you down, that's life. You need to deal with it, and shake it off and move on.

Exactly, they are let through to make the show entertaining. If they didn't, the show would not succeed. Some of Americans are desensitized and want to see other people humiliated. However, I am not interested in seeing it.
I also have wondered if this hasn't happened already where someone has killed themselves over it. We'd never know.
