Joe Pesci could face battery charge

Actor Joe Pesci has been accused of assaulting a college student who snapped his picture.

Police in Boca Raton, Florida, are investigating whether the 62-year-old Goodfellas star punched 24-year-old college student Juan Carlos Montenegro in the mouth before uttering: “You shouldn’t have been interrupting my business.”

According to a police report, Montenegro spotted Pesci outside a Circuit City store and told the star that he was a big fan. The actor reportedly turned down Montenegro’s request to pose for a picture.

Montenegro followed Pesci to his car and snapped his picture when the star turned around. That is when he is alleged to have punched Montenegro with his right fist.

Police said there are no independent witnesses to the alleged assault. But if there is enough evidence, Pesci could face a misdemeanor battery charge.

Montenegro said he remains a fan of the actor. “I may have gotten him on a bad day,” he said.
