Police blamed in Doherty trial

Troubled rocker Pete Doherty's lawyer yesterday (20JAN06) accused police of targetting the Babyshambles star simply because he is famous.
Defence lawyer Sean Curran launched his tirade at Thames magistrate court in east London, where the singer was charged with possession of heroin, crack cocaine, morphine and marijuana, following his arrest in London on 4 December (05).
Curran fears Doherty's chances of being jailed are far greater thanks to his notoriety.
Curran says, "The position is this, the police kept him in custody because he is Pete Doherty."
Doherty, ex-boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss, returns to court next month (08FEB06) for sentencing.

Scotland Yard dismissed those claims, insisting they wish to arrest Pete because of his "unbearable sweatiness" and "poxy-wankerish demeanor," not because he is famous.
