I was prescribed Wellbutrin w/Zyban to help quit smoking. Did not help though. Wellbutrin is a anti-depressant and Zyban is the stop smoking part of the drug.

Yeah it is Zyban or Wellbutrin, they perscrice Zyban to quit smoking, I heard it works if oyu are not a heavy smoker. When I was Lindsay's age I smoked like a chiminy.

You can get patches and pills and gum and an endless list of aids to quit smoking, over here. nicorette is the most famous, it releases nicotine to help curb cravings. That way it's a bit easier to quit

I have a friend who tried it and it did not work. He was back sucking down the evil weed within weeks.

Didn't work for me either. Made me feel like utter crap and get NO sleep for days. I quit cold turkey two years ago. Only slipped up twice in the 6 months after I quit, and none since. It's hard as hell to quit. I still sort of want to smoke every once in a while. What helped me was an online support group. The gum I tried, but any product like that keeps you dependent on nicotine. That's actually the easiest part to kick. It's the emotional connection to smoking that makes it so hard. I used a lot of deep breathing to simulate the feeling that smoking gives.

I tried everything (patches, wellbutrin, gum, inhalers) and was never able to quit. A friend of mine used Smoke Away (that stuff you see on tv) and quit. I finally tried the Smoke Away about 6 months ago and haven't smoked since. I really didn't believe it would work but it turned out to be quite easy. It's a lot of herbs and vitamins.

wow.. id love to never touch them again.. even with illness i cant seem to stop entirely.. granted i now only smoke one a day or 3 every 5 days.. but still its smoking.. and im with the poster that said itws the emotional connection.. it is..

at least she's trying. i used to smoke like a fiend and it has def. ruined my lungs. i'm still young but i now have asthma and other breathing problems as a result. i did quit cold turkey which was good but i don't think i ever could have done it without the support from my bf (he said that if i could succeed for a month, i could do/have whatever i wanted from him for two months - go on nice dates every day, get it on whenever i wanted to etc). i messed up and felt bad so i told him and he said no problem just to keep trying. long story short, i have managed to completely quit for about 10 months now.

i hope lindsay can find someone to support her, because that's what honestly made the difference. i've tried a billion times before to quit but this time was different because i not only would disappoint myself but i would disappoint my bf

I don't believe you can quit because you've been told you ought to;
you need to find personal reasons to quit, and until you do, you
probably won't be able to.

Exactly what I was thinking. I doubt it'll work. She's at that age where she thinks smoking is cool. How bad is it to be so addicted to something at her age, especially cigarettes, its so sad but its all her own doing.

Reminds me of the time my boyfs parents tried to quit smoking (they are heavy smokers - the whole family infact). They bought these inhalers that you pop a cartridge in and suck on to get your nicotine but also feel as if you are holding and 'smoking' a cigarette. My boyf walked in on his mum desperately sucking on this tube, red in the face shouting "it's not bloody working!!" Turns out she hadn't put the catridge in!!
