Simon Cowell slams ungrateful Kelly Clarkson

The BREAKAWAY singer, who won the first season of the hit US show, has refused to let the programme's producers use any of her hits for wannabes to sing in its latest run, which started last night (17JAN06).

And angry Cowell suggests the singer should be more grateful to producers for giving her her big break.

He fumes, "No matter how talented Kelly Clarkson is, she would not be in the position she's in now without winning this show.

"It's the public who bothered to pick up the phone to vote for her. I don't care about me; I don't think she was ever interested in me. I was interested in the fact that she was a great contestant.

"I don't like when they walk away from the show and kind of forget the people who put her where she is today. By ignoring the show you're ignoring the audience who put you there.

"If she refuses to give songs to be used on the show, it's like saying to every person who voted for you, 'You know what, thank you I'm not interested in you anymore.' That is a big mistake."

He might mean for the live performance shows, i know you have to have the artists permission to use the bcking track and perform the lyrics infront of an audience on TV. She's stupid if she doesnt let them, not only is it where she started off but what about all the free publicity?

Oh I never thought of that!! I just thought she didn't want to be associated with the show anymore and and wanted to get on with her career. But that's a good point Tiara.

I like her music, but she needs to be a little more humble. Like Yikes, noone can sing her song when she was on there belting out other people's songs before she won.

Does she own the rights to the songs? She may well be under a contract where she's not allowed to make those decisions.

I think this is a bunch of horseshit spouted by the blowhard Simon. Kelly is under a 7-year contract with 19 Entertainment (19E). I believe the songs she doesn't write that end up on her album come from a stable of songwriters under contract with the publishing arm of 19E. As for the songs she writes (or co-writes) I bet you anything 19E manages to get their greedy little hands on part of the rights to those too. BTW, forgot to mention this, but 19E is the group that produces American Idol.

While she's far from a terrible singer, I've never believed Kelly's as talented a singer as AI, the press or the public seem to think. She screams when she sings. I can do that. There have been other more talented winners and contestants since.

I don't often agree with Simon, but I back him 100% on this one. By doing this, Kelly has no doubt lost the respect of a number of people. And you know for Simon to criticize Kelly - whom he's always held in high esteem - it speaks volumes. There is little she can do now to fix the situation. The damage has likely been done.

It's funny how desparate people are to appear on Idol UNTIL they win and then they want absolutely nothing to do with it. Things sometimes have a way of coming back and biting you on the ass.

She's smart for not letting them use her stuff... does she want to be known as the American Idol girl?

Fuck no. She's trying to pus as much distance between herself and that show as possible so she can be an artist in her own right.

I would do the same thing myself.. i wouldnt want people constantly associating me with some tv show while i was trying to forge a singing career.
