Hugh Laurie has best acceptance speech ever.
Quote:
AP, via Washington Post: “[Hugh] Laurie, who masks his British accent to play the brilliant but difficult doctor in ‘House,’ said he had 172 people to thank. So he said he wrote their names on slips of paper and would choose three at random. He thanked the show’s script supervisor, hair stylist and, finally, his agent.”
UPI: “The British actor [Laurie] said had 172 people to thank. So he put 172 pieces of paper in his pocket and would pull out three names and ‘everyone else could just lump it.’”
London Times: “‘I made a list of all the people who deserve to be thanked. It came to 172 names,’ Laurie told the press on the red carpet outside the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where the ceremony was held. ‘I wrote the names, put them in my left hand trouser pocket. I’m going to draw out three and thank them, the rest can lump it.’”

Re: Hugh Laurie has best acceptance speech ever.
I was so surprised to hear him speak with an accent when he gave his speech. I had no idea!! That's some talent right there
I watch the show, but had never seen him speak outside of his role before.

He is quite funny, eccentric, but funny. I like him better than that Steven Fry one he's a pompous futher mucker.

Re: Hugh Laurie has best acceptance speech ever.
I saw the speech. It was funny to see him walk without a limp (rather spry actually) and talk in a British accent. Loved when he threw one down and said forget that. And that the agent wasn't in his writing.
Steve Carrell's speech was great, too! Saying his wife wrote it, and every few lines there were more reasons why he had to thank her, including for giving birth, and that he really needed to phone when he was going to be late.
I forget who, but in another acceptance speech, they said, and thanks to Steve Carrell's wife.

I know! The first time I heard him speak outside of House was Flight of the Phoenix and I was like, "what do you mean, he's not American?!?"

Re: Hugh Laurie has best acceptance speech ever.
I remember he and Fry were really good in that Jeeves and Wooster;
but I've only seen one. I hope some of these other wankers in American
Tv go on House and learn to act.

Re: Hugh Laurie has best acceptance speech ever.
I read somewhere (?MSN) that Geena Davis commented on how the "Stuart Little" people won, and she then went to congratulate him...

Re: Hugh Laurie has best acceptance speech ever.
Hahahahaha, that's funny. I also thought the lady president from that TV show had a good acceptance speech as well. I forget her name, but she went on about how a little girl had stopped her at the show and thanked her and said something like "Because of you, I want to be a president someday", and after everyone was done clapping anf oohhing and awwwing , she told them it was a lie..................Classic!!!
Additional Comment:
Gosh, talk about intuition, we were posting at the same time. I believe her name is Geena Davis.

Hugh Laurie's speech was great, but Steve Carell's was way better.

Re: Hugh Laurie has best acceptance speech ever.
Love Hugh. There are times when I watch him and just expect him to be his black adder character. Other times I expect him to be house. Hugh is better as Hugh though.
