Mary-Kate Olsen has bought her own engagement ring

MARY-KATE OLSEN won't be taking any chances on her boyfriend's taste when she decides to wed - she has already bought her engagement ring.

The Olsen twin has reportedly bought herself a $250,000 (GBP138,900) vintage ring - even though she hasn't even got a regular date.

The 19-year-old actress, who is still broken hearted after splitting up with Greek shipping heir STAVROS NIARCHOS in October (05), bought the antique 19th century rose-cut diamond-and-emerald engagement ring from a private broker, according to American magazine In Touch.

A pal tells the publication, "Mary-Kate hasn't worn the ring yet. She keeps it tucked away in her jewellery box, but she takes it out to show her friends and she looks at it all the time, too. It's breathtaking."

I actually find this a little sad. I know how important an engagement ring is and everything, but to buy your own ring you take out of the box and gaze at every so often when you aren't even seeing anyone? It makes me feel bad for her a little.

Right...if she really wants to wear a ring that she likes she can buy it herself and wear it as a regular ring...buying your own engagement ring WITHOUT having a boyfriend is the most pathetic thing ever.

Yeah that does seem a little sad. It may be one heck of a dazzler but where's the suprise to it? A ring should be picked by your partner. I don't actually agree with people who dislike the ring their partner picks and go out to pick a 'nicer' one. My boyfriends taste in jewellery leaves a lot to be desired at the best of times but I would wear what he picked as it has a personal touch to it.

So what will happen to MK when she is proposed to? She agress then rushes off to get her ring? What if the poor lad doesn't know she already has one and buys his own?

If it's a ring she loves, why not just wear it? Even if it resembles an engagement ring, SO WHAT! Women should wear what ever jewels they desire. No need in waiting for a man when she can afford her baubles herself.
