SPIELBERG EYES MARY POPPINS REMAKE
Oscar-winning film-maker STEVEN SPIELBERG is planning to remake classic 1960s musical MARY POPPINS.
SIR RICHARD EYRE, the director of the London stage show of Mary Poppins, has been approached by Spielberg to helm a new version of the 1964 JULIE ANDREWS-starring movie.
Eyre says, "Spielberg wants to make a new film of Mary Poppins and we've talked about it a lot.
"It will be hard to outdo the original but kids love the story and I'm sure that the remake will be a real success."

This is seriously wrong, just plain WRONG! Hollywood can't do anything nowadays. Since when have remakes ever made a profit? And why does he think this remake will be different? It's sometimes okay to remake REALLY old movies that nobody has never really seen before, but remaking a classic?
He just thinks his shit don't stink, doesn't he?

He ruined War Of The Worlds, ably assisted by the Mad Scientologist who would not know good acting if it sat on his face.
The original Mary Poppins is absolutely fine apart from Dick van Dyke's (aka Thingy van Lesbian according to the APS censor, LOL) truly atrocious 'cockney' accent that makes my toes curl and I don't think anyone but Julie Andrews could play role of Mary so perfectly.
If it ain't broke - don't fix it.

I have the feeling the deal has already been made, and they're
just announcing it as tentative as a matter of course. But at least
Spielberg isn't directing it -- he just doesn't have the light touch
necessary to pull off something like this. Just watch Catch Me If
You Can and see how darkly lit it was -- the lighting was as
somber as a courtroom drama. He could make an escapist action film
(like Raiders) with a heavy undercurrent of tension, and yes,
he made E.T. with the scenes of the kids riding their bikes
across the moon, but I shudder to think what kind of weight
he would bring to a children's musical like this.
You couldn't really blame him for thinking that, given his reputationOriginally Posted by darksithbunny

When you want to try to improve on a classic, I am NOT sorry to say but he is just going to ruin it for the lot of us.
