KING KONG CONQUERS US BOX OFFICE
KING KONG has conquered the US holiday season box office, beating off competition from THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE.
PETER JACKSON's epic remake grossed $31.4 million (GBP17.4 million) from 23 to 26 December (05), while the Disney adaptation of CS LEWIS' classic children's book took $30.1 million (GBP16.7 million).
JIM CARREY comedy FUN WITH DICK AND JANE grabbed the third spot with $23.5 million (GBP13.1 million), beating STEVE MARTIN's sequel CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 2 into fourth place with $14.8 million (GBP8.2 million).
THE FAMILY STONE, which stars CLAIRE DANES and DIANE KEATON, rounds out the top five with takings of $10.9 million (GBP6.1 million).
