Hollywood beauty HALLE BERRY once fell into a coma for seven days.
The DIE ANOTHER DAY star, 39, fell seriously ill on the set of TV show LIVING DOLLS in 1989, and it was only after she regained consciousness, she was diagnosed with diabetes.
Berry recalls, "I felt tired but couldn't take a breather. I felt I needed energy but I didn't even have a minute to pop out and get a chocolate bar.
"I felt more and more tired and one day I passed out and I didn't wake up for seven days which is obviously very serious.
"They told me I might lose my eyesight, or I could lose my legs. I was scared to death, I thought I was going to die."
The Oscar-winner actress is now forced to test her blood sugar levels twice a day and injects herself with insulin.
She explains, "Because no one expects you to be doing it, no one really notices."

^^ That's how most Type 1 Diabetics are diagnosed. They either go into a diabetic coma or come through the ER in a stupor with a sweet smell to their breath. What she says about her eyesight and legs are also true. Renal failure and loss of sensation in limbs are also common. It's a terrible disease, especially for those who are insulin dependant.

That's really sad. This is the first I've heard about her being diabetic.

She also has made claims that she doesn't need insulin. So--as a parent of a Type 1 diabetic child I have to say that although there are rumours she is diabetic, I doubt it. Also, if she was Type 1, she would (or SHOULD) be testing her sugars more than twice a day and would have at least 3 injections per day. The problems with the amputations etc-- will only happen to diabetics that do not take care of themselves. Especially if they are Type 2 diabetics (adult-onset diabetes--totally curable and preventable.)If she was diagnosed after being tired etc. that isn't quite right either. She would have extremely HIGH blood sugar (the sweet smelling breath is correct) but she would be in agony etc before lapsing straight into a coma (not to mention the extreme thirst and urination.) She would have to be "high" for days before a coma. Sounds like a dramatic rumour.
I know of what I speak...

She speaks about her diabetes on her website hallewood.com. Mary Tyler Moore is also a Type 1 diabetic. So is Kofi Anon and Bret Michaels from Poison. Bret has been especially supportive of raising money for a cure. I am also a Type 1 diabetic as well, so I know of what I speak also!

She IS a diabetic as is Warren Beatty, in whose movie Bulworth she starred, another thing that bonded them. They both are great contributors for various diabetis research organizations.

Actually, Warren Beatty is NOT diabetic, but he and Annette Benning do alot of campaigning for research and cure for diabetes. They are especially strong supporters of stem cell research.

LOL.... I was just gonna say, you can't argue with HWBL about Warren... she is the resident Warren-lovin' expert. If she says that Warren wears pink polka-dotted panties on his head while he sleeps in a hyperbaric chamber, I will believe it!

Oh God, I'm so obsessed, aren't I? But at least I own up to it I'm aware of my insanity, bless me. The guy's just so irresistable (well, he was, before his skin started to outgrow him )
He has a mild form of diabetes, though, several of my cousins have it too, no need to take insulin, just regular meals, careful with wounds and infections, always keep food around, that's it. Not horror stories like Mary Tyler Moore, who damned near lost her eyesight!
