AMERICAN BEAUTY star MEAN SUVARI is considering turning her back on her acting career, because she doesn't find it mentally stimulating enough.
The 26-year-old star originally dreamed of an academic future in archaeology or paleontology, but was lured into acting when her teenage modelling career sky-rocketed.
And she is still optimistic she will realise her early dreams.
She says, "I just fell into acting. I don't have a strong desire to be an actress my whole life - it's just not fulfilling enough for me. No offence to those in the business, that's just me.
"If I hadn't got into modelling, I probably would have studied psychology and might be working on a PhD right now.
"But it's not too late to go back to school. I've met people in their 50s who just got their degrees.
"I'll see how the acting goes."

I'm assuming "Mean Suvari" is a freudian slip.

Good for her! But I'm curious: why the animosity towards her? Is she rumored to be a stone-cold bitch??

Nah, I don't know....she just seems like one of those 'I'm very smart you know and I only got into acting/modeling on a lark and blah blah blah' and they go on to tell you that they would be a Marine Biologist or whatever if they hadn't gotten into acting, when we all know she would be waiting tables.
I liked her on 'Six Feet Under' and in 'American Beauty' but I can certainly live w/o her. And if she feels it's not 'stimulating' her then by all means, go buy a farm and do your thing. And in 5 yrs she'll be looking for some 'good parts'.
Got nothing against her. I guess her comments rubbed me the wrong way. Most of the things that celebrities say seem to do that.

I don't know that much about her. There was a girl on another message board that said she went to school with her and that she was really nice back then, but that doesn't mean much once they're famous.

I don't see anything wrong with what she said. I'm an actor, but it wasn't until my senior year of high school that I decided I would pursue acting. What would I be if not an actor/writer/artist/whatever? I'd be a neurosurgeon, baby! I still harbor a desire to be one, but I've made my bed and now I shall lie in it.
So, not all actors are stupid. Some are actually pretty fucking brilliant and multi-talented, myself included! FYI: I graduated from Dartmouth College with a GPA of 3.25 (out of 4.0), and in the standard four-year time! Yay, me!

^^^ No, you are absolutely right, not all actors are stupid and I hope you didn't take it that way. Brooke Shields jumps to mind immediately. And obviously you worked hard and went to an excellent college.
I just wonder if she even knows what it's like in college, in life, at a 'real job'--she (appears to) have no concept of it. Or maybe she does. I don't know.
I have heard/read so many other quotes from celebrities about what they would be doing, and it's just amusing. But we all have 'dreams' and that is cool.
I wanted to be an Anthropologist and yet, here I sit....so I am not one to judge clearly. Honestly, I have no business saying anything about anyone..but it's still fun to do it anyway.
I also need to go back to 3rd grade and learn to spell as well....

That's why I'm here! And I wasn't offended by what any of you guys wrote, by the way. I just wanted to play devil's advocate* and say she may be genuinely bored with acting. I could never be, though!
*I swear, I play Devil's Advocate so much I oughta invent a board game, LOL!

Yeah... she's got a part in Domino, and she's got a few more movies coming out in the near future.

Her comments about 'falling into acting' and other shit must really annoy the really great actors who struggle their entire lives but never get a break.
I hate when celebrities say stuff like that. "oh, I never wanted to act/model/be famous. I just fell into it!"

Her statements remind me of Sharon Stone and Jessica Simpson, both 'allegedly' geniuses. Prove it, please...because your actions sure aren't making the argument.
Now, yes, I know Mena didn't say she was a 'genius'...its just so darn flippant to say she'd be embroiled in her PhD coursework right now were it not for acting. I recently graduated from law school and passed the Bar (while working full time) and goddamnit, its HARD...several of my classmates just up and quit after two years of school, even after sinking 50k into their partial education. If Ms. Mena does decide to pursue an advanced education she should bank her money now, because it costs real money.
