12/09/05: Mary Kate Quit College To Be Happy

Teen star Mary Kate Olsen quit her studies at NYU in October 05 because her acting career makes her happier than writing college assignments. The "New York Minute" beauty has now moved to Los Angeles and is spending her time looking after her health and pushing her screen career to the next level. She says: "I'm happy that I kind of realised that, OK, I need to take care of myself right now." "I need to be able to go to yoga and work out and just read scripts and go to auditions because that's what makes me happy." "Like, papers don't really make me happy."

I'd just like to say, fuck you Mary Kate. There are hundreds if not thousands of people who are intelligent and hungering for education that can't afford it. How hard would it be for you to take a course like drama, or television and urban culture? Get bent. You can continue making shitty movies, and I can continue not watching them.

Yeah, cuz I looooooooooove writing my papers. Too bad the rest of us don't have the luxery of falling back on acting. Can't say I blame her though, school stinks sometimes!! (Well, most of the time, at least for me)

I say good for her, if that's what she wants. She's making the decision based on what she thinks is right for HER. I don't think she has an obligation to go to school just because there are others that can't afford to.

but she has a chance many people would die for...she's still young, and let's face it. her movies suck and she's not going to be a teen queen forever. what is she going to do when she's a 30 year old actress still playing the cute 12 year old twin? she's got no legitimate longevity.

i think the bigger reason is that she probably wasn't the center of attention any more...apparently people hated her at NYU.

If I were rich, I wouldn't worry about school much either. I still might go, but I'd go at my own pace, take things I enjoyed, etc. She's a zillionaire... she can do whatever she wants.

I would guess that most of the people dying to get into school want to go so that they can have the money and the job... she doesn't need either.

Her decision not to attend actually gives someone else a chance.

Maybe she's just too young to appreciate higher education right now. Lots of young girls are like that, money or no. It doesn't mean she might not change her mind down the road when she's older and she might get more out of it later on.

In the meantime though, I still have two years left of my undergrad degree and then another few years of grad school ... maybe she'd pay for me to go. Hehe.

She's going to go back to her acting career? I know she has the videos and girls clothes line, but acting? Has she actually been in anything that could be perceived as an acting "career" since Full House?

Ok I like MK but her acting skills
