TomKat wedding date set

According to the Sun, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have finally set the date for their nuptials- October 21, 2006 in Beverly Hills, CA, but JustJared is reporting that "doomsday" is July 7, 2006 based on their gift registry at Neiman Marcus. (Items range from a $6.99 washcloth to a $430 coffee pot.)

Guests expected to attend the wedding of Katherine Holmes and Thomas Mapother include David and Victoria Beckham, Oprah Winfrey, and fellow Scientologists John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston.

How f#$&@@& tacky that they are asking for wedding gifts. They couldn't take a clue from Christina Aguilera, of all people, and ask that people donate to charity instead?

Not that I believe in "shotgun weddings" or "having to get married," but what's the hold-up? Wouldn't it be just as easy to get married sooner rather than later? Will her family be at the wedding? Sounds like a real clammy affair: I 'spect the 'rents will be less than thrilled. TinyTom really doesn't give a rat's ass about what Kat(i)e might like/want or how any of this might be affecting her, does he? This whole tale has been utterly insane from the get-go.
Nothing we don't already know, though...

Not only do they want actual gifts from their guests, but they need a $430 coffee pot.

Are we really supposed to believe this? Actors/actresses generally try to keep their marriage plans fairly secret so they aren't swamped by paparazzi on the big day. Yet Cruise and Holmes who are generating quite a bit of media interest not only reveal the date, but the place as well?

It might be a smokescreen, but I still don't think they'll ever get married.
