11/18/05: NICOLE AND KEITH SPARK ENGAGEMENT RUMOURS

NICOLE KIDMAN and KEITH URBAN continue to fight reports they're dating, but even their publicists are waiting to make the announcement that the romance is for real.

Photos of the Aussie couple walking hand in hand through the streets of Boston, Massachusetts, have appeared in the new issue of America's People magazine, prompting reporters to quiz the pair's publicists for the real story.

Kidman was spotted wearing what looked like an engagement wing on her wedding finger, but Urban's publicist PAUL FREUNDLICH insists the couple aren't engaged.

Candidly, he says, "Right now it's just a rumour. When and if there's a statement we'll make that public."

First of all, who gives a damn if they get married? It's not that exciting, and they're not cheating on anyone so it's not scandalous or anything. So what is with all the secret shit? Is this a rule now? No celebrity couple shall admit to a relationship? No matter how many times they've been seen together sucking face and holding hands? WHY?

I think celebrities have finally come around to the reality that it just doens't pay to speak about their love life to the public. Jennifer Anniston stated as much during her recent appearance on Larry King and Halle Barry has alluded the same thing. It's got to be tough to have your love life played out in the media and - personally - I think they're wise to keep their mouths shut and keep their private life private. It's like the newest trend in Hollywood.

Some of us may not care or be interested, but not surprisingly, there are a lot who are.

In this particular instance, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this rumor is true. They'd make a hot couple!

I agree and that makes sense, in a way, but that the same time... it seems very silly to deny a relationship while you're staring at photos of yourself locking lips with the person you're denying having a relationship with. You know? It's just absurd. It's like the kid with his hand in the cookie jar, saying "I didn't do it!!"

I do agree with you on that, for sure! I always know that as soon as two "friends" start insisting they're only that, they're probably more.

Part of me says they have no obligation to acknowledge anything to the masses, but at the same time - as you noted - if they're out there doing it in public and it's a pretty obvious fact what's up, why not just admit it and then let us all move on to the next big thing?

I agree, if you're keeping it all such a secret why would you go out in public doing such things knowing full well that there is probably somebody there who's going to catch it on film?

So here I am sitting, with no life, watching TV, and they reported that Nicole & Keith are engaged. Ok....are these the same two crazy kids saying that they are not 'together'?
Don't see it anywhere else on the net, so who the hell knows! Just passing it along!

I saw this too and it's the best news I've heard in a long time. I love them together and I think he's just what she's been looking for all this time. He has a respect for privacy that is so important to Nicole and he just seems like a wonderful guy. The odds are stacked more in their favor than her ex, that's for sure. Congrats to them!!!!

I agree. I realize that it is probably hard for celebrities to live their love lives in the public eye, but come on...if you're seen in public holding hands and kissing, don't deny it!!! Just have your publicist say something along the lines of, "My client prefers not to comment on her private life". How hard is that???

Wouldnt being up front about a relationship, whoever it may be, be easier for both parties? I mean you got the crazy photo shooters hounding these people just trying to get that shot of kissing or holding hands. So if they are up front its not so much of a "chase" to get that photo. Its then old news and who cares.

Kidman and Urban engaged: report

Oscar-winning actor Nicole Kidman and country music singer Keith Urban are officially engaged, according to US showbiz program Entertainment Tonight.
The show said sources close to the Australian stars had confirmed the engagement.
This latest development adds further weight to speculation that Kidman and Urban are expecting a baby.

Pregnancy rumours began last month when the US People magazine ran a picture of the couple appearing happy, in love and with Urban's hand protectively on Kidman's stomach.
A few weeks before that, People magazine ran a picture of Kidman wearing a diamond ring on her wedding finger while walking through a Boston street with Urban.
The pair's spokespeople have not confirmed the latest rumour and were unavailable for comment on Thursday afternoon.

I hope Nicole is happy, if this is true.. They both look happy in the photos going around. At least they look like a more normal couple then TomKat.

No wonder Nicole is so very svelte

Seems I missed quite a bit since I've been gone on vacation, but thanks to all of you who tried to keep me informed of all the Nicole Kidman/Keith Urban sightings over Thanksgiving.

Looks like they're kicking it up a notch. Nicole's folks and Keith's mum were here. And Star magazine had a picture of what appeared to be a ring on Nicole's engagement finger. Oh, MY! No comment from the stars.

Other sightings: Keith and Nicole strolled the flea market at Tennessee State Fairgrounds and had dinner Saturday at Morton's.

I'm told the two looked quite cozy at Morton's, where Nicole skipped the beef and other big entrees and opted for a crab cocktail instead.

Awww, cute. Well if they're engaged or if they're not, I think they look good together. And Nicole deserves some happiness.

I also think that perhaps celebs keep their relationships quiet for two reasons:

One: They want the public out of their private lives. That would be the most legitimate reason, especially if a couple is real rather than just a PR couple.

Two: More publicity. Keep the public speculating and it gets you more press. There's no such thing as bad publicity, right? I think alot of celebs do this, more than they are willing to admit. Sad but true.

Just my 2 cents.
