The Truth about Reese & Ryan
from some days ago, but I thought it was interesting.
Quote:
Don't panic. Reese and Ryan are not in trouble or in crisis. At least not compared to the Simpsons and the Federlines. But remember, gossips. There are no coincidences in Hollywood. And as much as they appear to shun the standard Hollywood practice of exploiting a marriage whenever it's convenient, I'm sorry to have to tell you that the Witherspoon/Philippes are just as opportunistic as the others - especially when Oscar season comes around.
Here are the pulchritudinous partners at last week's premiere of Walk the Line, their first official red carpet appearance in months. And while there is nothing suspicious about a husband supporting his wife to a major event, there is something very unusual about the two of them together in public with the kids on the same weekend, especially when you consider that it has been nothing short of an eternity since the last time these two have been photographed out and about as a family. As most of you already know, Reese and Charlize Theron are the two early Oscar contenders for Best Actress, a horse race that most industry experts predict will not change come March. Given that Theron's North Country has received critical praise but little box office interest, Reese will probably move in to the lead if Walk the Line is able to translate its early buzz into legitimate ticket sales. And I don't have to tell you that a positive family image and a relatively scandal-free existence will do wonders for Mrs. Philippe come voting time.
My sources are reporting that 20th Century Fox has been working on the Walk the Line Oscar campaign for months, and they have not been shy in positioning their 2 major stars for nominations. I hear Reese has been pressured to appear more frequently with Ryan, to underscore her dependable Hollywood stature, to continue to reinforce the Sweet Reese image. After all, with the demise of Brad & Jen, Hollywood needs a new all-American golden couple, and can you think of anyone more appropriate than these two? With their sunkissed looks and their sunkissed children and their sunkissed lives?
Thing is - and I'm sure this isn't shocking - the state of their union isn't exactly thriving. Ryan isn't down with being just an accessory in his wife's quest for an Academy Award. No…I don't mean professional jealousy. I just mean he's not interested in that kind of accomplishment. And between the two of them, things aren't storybook either. The bad news is - they have grown apart with divergent interests and schedules. The good news is - they are still committed to working things out and sticking it through. But believe me when I tell you there isn't a helluva lot of passion in this household, which is problematic indeed especially for Reese, who has been eager to have a third child. And this, my fellow gossips, is the huge stumbling block. Because rumour has it, Ryan doesn't want one.
But can you imagine the sickening overdose of saccharine delight if she waddled up on that Kodak stage to accept her Oscar with a belly out to here, in the cutest pink maternity dress with her hair in curls, and a pair of pregnancy shoes designed especially for her by Manolo himself??? Trust me, I'm sure the perfection of this moment hasn't escaped the Hollywood press machine. And while it's still unknown whether or not Ryan and Reese have obliged, don't be surprised if it actually plays out how I've scripted it above. After all, nothing seals a deal like a baby. Just ask Katie Holmes.

Nor I. I like her, she's pretty, has a super hot husband, and she's a great role model for young women.

Me neither. Reese is like a breath of fresh air when it comes to the rest of the Lollypop headed blondes out there. She's real, she's smart and she's not rail thin.

I like her, too. She's like a Julianne Moore, or a Jodie Foster, or a Rene Russo to me. I'm not interested in their personal lives, but I like them in movies.

Re: The Truth about Reese & Ryan
I remember reading where they both admitted that they had normal marital issues and sought counseling for it when needed. If they were sincere and honest in saying it, that alone gives them a step up on many couples.

I'm with you, Sputnik, although it doesn't make me like her. She has a reputation of being a complete bitch and I think it shows whenver she does interviews.

Agree. It's so refreshing to read about her as opposed to the likes of Paris, Nicole, Kimberly who think getting engaged is the same as going steady for a little while.
Reese is a great example to all. I love how - even when she acknlowedges marriage is not always a bed of roses - she's willing to share with people that she and Ryan seek help when they need it. There is no shame in that. Good on them!

Re: The Truth about Reese & Ryan
I think Reese kicks ass. Everyone is always much more than what they seem to the public eye. And honestly is it really that much of a stretch to assume that with two kids and jam packed schedules that these two lack the passion they had when they were single kids working ona film together? The point is, whatever I do hear about them at least appears to be something that it took a lot of nosing around to find out. At least they know some semblance of subtlety. I could see how she could come across as a bitch to plenty of people, especially in the workplace, as I've heard she is a perfectionist. I don't see anything wrong with that. Sometimes cast and crew admire and appreciate this professionalism and everything clicks with everyone and things end up being fun anyway. For people who are big on being able to party and be *close friends* on a movie set, even if it means compromising production a bit due to occasional hangovers, etc. they are probably going to think she's a hardass bitch for wanting things like being to set on time and prepared to take priority.

Re: The Truth about Reese & Ryan
I love Reese. But the story makes sense. All of Hollywood is just one big movie for the rest of us. It doesn't surprise me one bit that someone behind the scenes would call them up and tell them to go to the park so they could be seen and photographed as one big happy family when one of them has a movie coming out.

exactly. only the cynical bastards make it big in hollywood (or any other highly competitive field), i think people have to stop kidding themselves. it cracks me up how this chick has such a saintly reputation. people and magazines are all, 'she's such a nice, normal southern girl! and she goes to church!' but please, she just chose a different packaging and she manages her image more shrewdly.
