(Aug. 15) -- Britney Spears' infamous lip-lock with Madonna at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards has been seen by many as the kiss of death for Britney's career. Now, with Spears' career as deep in the tank as it's ever been, she may try to use the very same awards show to launch a comeback.
The New York Daily News (second item) says it could likely be true that Spears is planning a "surprise" performance at the Sept. 9 awards show in Las Vegas. A Daily News source said Britney's manager, Jeff Kwatinetz, has been involved in meetings with MTV, and is now fine-tuning her routine.
The source also states that Spears' label is afraid that her erratic behavior of late could continue, and that a major mistake -- or even a no-show -- would be disastrous for her career.
Since her 2003 smash hit "Toxic," Spears' music career has been on the back burner thanks to two pregnancies, a shaky marriage to Kevin Federline that ended in divorce and various public meltdowns. In May, Spears attempted a series of short club concerts under the name M + M's, but crowds were let down by the 5-song set list and in one instance, Spears' backing tape skipping as she was lip synching.

What is her definition of "perform?" Show up? Lip synch? Get dressed?
I think she should attempt a live version of Toxic!

Ooh, if she doesn't show or cancels at the last minute industry people--well MTV people--are gonna be pissed. As it is, people probably aren't itching to work with her unprofessional reputation.

Id love to see it. Just imagine, lip synching and slapping at imaginary insects and scratching her crawling scalp and stripping and asking the audience to swap clothes with her. Should be quite a show. Im already there.
