Pete Doherty given warning by court - Yahoo! NewsPete Doherty given warning by court
LONDON - Pete Doherty must prove his desire to quit drugs within a month, or face a jail sentence, a judge warned Tuesday.
The 28-year-old lead singer of Babyshambles has admitted possessing quantities of crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine, as well as to two driving offenses.
Judges ordered him to take part in a detoxification program, but a review of his progress Tuesday found he had tested positive for drugs in initial tests.
"If he does not show his motivation it's prison, as simple as that," Judge Davinder Lachlar said at the review hearing. "Depending on what information I have when you next come to court, the decision will be made."
Doherty, best known as the ex-boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss, has been undergoing drug treatment under court order because of previous convictions.
The latest case refers to offenses in May, when police officers stopped Doherty's car in central London.
Lachlar ordered Doherty to return to West London Magistrates' Court for a Sept. 4 hearing. The singer left in a black minivan, poking through a sunroof to jeer at photographers as the vehicle sped away.
Why are they still even dicking around with this guy? He obviously can't or won't quit snorting and shooting himself up with everything but the kitchen sink.

...and apparently the decision will be, if history serves as a guide, to release him onto the streets with an expungement, an apology from the court and police, a blank scrip pad, a MapQuest to the nearest dopeman's house, the keys to a brand-new Hummer, and another Get Out of Jail Free card to be used next week.LONDON - Pete Doherty must prove his desire to quit drugs within a month, or face a jail sentence, a judge warned Tuesday.

Will Pete heed the warning? No. Does Pete even remember getting a warning? No.![]()
Why should he heed the "warning"? Those stupid judges have done nothing so far but tickle his wrist. I hope this is one of those cases where the judge is being nice...nice....nice....and them SLAM- 5 years in the pokey.
This guy is messed up..and continues to get more and more messed up.
He's a walking advertisement for methface and abstinence.
Im ashamed to say what I did for a klondike bar...
His critics would say he has had more than enough time to clean up his act.
But serial offender Pete Doherty was spared jail yet again yesterday and given four weeks to prove he has kicked his drug habit.
The 28-year-old singer, who is charged with possession of crack, heroin, cannabis and ketamine, was warned he would be sent to prison if he failed to stay clean.
Clearly exasperated by the Babyshambles frontman, Judge Davinder Lachher, who was due to sentence him yesterday after already delaying the decision for a month, said: "It is a community order or prison. If he does not show the motivation in four weeks, it will be prison." Scroll down for more
Troubled rocker Pete Doherty arriving in court today
Doherty's extensive criminal record includes assault, possession of a flickknife and numerous driving and drug offences. Given a month from July 4 to enter drug rehabilitation, Doherty only entered a private £ 3,000 five - day programme on July 23.
Meanwhile, last week pictures were printed in a tabloid newspaper of him smoking a crack pipe.
West London magistrates heard yesterday that Doherty, Kate Moss's former boyfriend, had a 12-month implant inserted in his stomach to wean him off heroin during the detox programme.
The detox is so recent that subsequent tests showed traces of drugs still in his system.
Judge Lachher said: "Anyone can do it for a week. I don't know to what extent he is motivated to continue. Can I make it very clear that it is either a community order or custodial. I expect him to comply with that."
Doherty's mother Jackie was present in court despite causing a rift between the two by publishing a tell-all book about her son. His father Peter Doherty, an Army officer, did not attend.
His supermodel ex-girlfriend was on holiday in Marbella with friends. The couple broke up after Miss Moss, 33, discovered he had cheated on her.
Despite protests from Sean Curran, Doherty's solicitor, the rocker was banned from living in London under his new bail conditions. Scroll down for more

It was agreed he will stay in Somerset - apart from when performing in Portugal for three days - and continue with his drug treatment programme until his sentencing on September 4. It is believed he will be staying with friends.
The cocky singer infuriated the judge by walking away before she had finished delivering the final details of his bail conditions. One of his entourage shouted from the public gallery: "Stop showing off."
Doherty was originally arrested on May 5 for drug possession and for driving his Jaguar in West London without insurance or an MOT certificate.
At the July court appearance he arrived two and a half hours late to find a warrant had been issued for his arrest two minutes earlier.
As he left court yesterday, wearing his signature trilby and black suit, he said: "I'm banned from London. I can't stay with my Mum because my Dad's there."
He stood up through the car's sunroof and waved, kissed goodbye and made hand signals to journalists and photographers as he was driven away. Judges have been criticised for giving Doherty sympathetic hearings in the past. In April, district judge Jane McIvor gave him a £770 fine and a four-month driving ban after he drove under the influence of drugs without a licence. She also claimed to be a fan of his music.

I'm shocked, a celebuturd getting leniency as always?
What kind of "motivation" is that?
If the judge were serious, if anyone were serious, how about cutting your nutsack off or quitting drugs? Now that is a better motivation.
Maybe it would be better if they just delivered all the drugs he wants to his home so he'll stay indoors all day and night snorting and injecting. That way he won't go out and we'll never have to see him in photos anymore.
why is he always greasy? WASH YOUR FUCKING FACE!
I am from the American CIA and I have a radio in my head. I am going to kill you.
Are the English seriously this lax about drugs? He's been given so many wrist slaps.
Addiction is an illness, especially an addiction as severe as his. It's impossible for him to "just quit" without supervised medical intervention and even then, there's no guarantee. He's another trainwrecked lost soul, just like Britney.
