I don't doubt his skills and nobody can bend it like Beckham. I just don't think he's uniquely gifted and there are plenty of other soccer players out there with equal talent. They just aren't as pretty and don't have a wife who insists on living in the PR spotlight. Actually she's been quite shrewd about that - dazzle the public with the glamour and glitz so they don't notice that David can't play as well or as often as he used to.

For example, Wayne Rooney is a talented player and has a chavtastic girlfriend but they are never going to be the No.1 Glamour Couple because he looks like this:

I ve read the book he wrote,and i have to say,he knows who he is,where he came from,he is a bit naive,but very loyal,and kind,a good guy,though he strayed a bit with that Loose woman

I remember watching the movie Bend It Like Beckham and having no clue who this David Beckham was that the girl kept referring to. I thought he was just some character made up for the movie.

Oh, I could give a shit about soccer and it would bore me out of my mind to actually try and follow a game--but you can bet your ass I'm gonna go to games and watch him play. Just sit there drinking beer and looking at his ass and fantastic legs go up and down the field. Nice piece of eye-candy.

^^^ Haha, he does look exactly like that and I can never understand why he doesn't have some corrective PS and major George Michael-like topiary. His g/f has had quite the makeover.

^^^ Yes - and older players get injured more often and take longer to recover. I'm not saying he's over the hill (yet) but he's not the player he was even 5 years ago so if LA Galaxy thought they were getting him in his prime they haven't been doing enough research. To be honest I wonder if any other US soccer team apart from one in LA would even consider spending millions on the Beckham Brand (because that's what all this is about).

Sports years are measured in the same way as dog years. So Beckham at 32 is old. What they bought was the brand Beckham, not the player of yester year.
