Sambora in Rehab because of Richards?

Richie Sambora entered rehab last week, and
Star has learned why. A friend claims that Sambora hadn’t escaped from his busted relationship with
Denise Richards!
“I think Richie’s relationship with Denise twisted him around to the point where he lost sight of who he was and what his life should be,” a friend of the
Bon Jovi guitarist tells
Star. “We want our friend back, and him going into rehab is the first step toward doing that.”
47-year-old Sambora first started dating
Wild Things star Richards, 35, on the heels of his split from wife
Heather Locklear in February 2007. Their relationship turned heads from the moment they went public, especially since Locklear counted Richards among her closest friends. Sambora and Locklear were former neighbors of Richards and her now ex-husband
Charlie Sheen.
``Richie used to party a lot in his younger days with Bon Jovi, but that was in the rear view mirror,” says his friend. “Everyone in the band had long since grown up and were treating the group as a business, not some rockin’ roll sideshow.” But that all changed when Richie started hanging out with Denise."
“It was like Richie was trying to recapture his youth – Richie went back into some bad old habits that everyone believed were behind him,” adds the friend. “His friends tried to tell him this relationship was poison to him. Denise didn’t make any friends in the band when I heard she went on tour and demanded she and Richie stay at hotels away from the rest of the band.”
After a while, everyone also noticed that the relationship was affecting him physically. ``Richie really started to look like crap. He became tired and bloated-looking and just wasn’t
acting himself,” says the friend.
The couple split in March, but it was obvious that all wasn’t right in Sambora’s world. When the Bon Jovi band taped a concert for MTV on June 5, Sambora reportedly had difficulty making his way through some of the
songs on the set list – songs he has played thousands of times with the band!
The following day, Sambora entered rehab at the advice of his close friend of
Jon Bon Jovi, “Jon told him he needed to get right,” the friend admits. ``It’s been pretty obvious for months now he wasn’t. Jon is Richie’s best friend, and it was out of that concern that he told Richie he needed to straighten himself out.”
The friend adds Richie’s closest friends are convinced the guitarist will come out of the other end of rehab with his life in order. ``Richie isn’t a kid anymore, but he lost sight of himself,” the friend says. ``He got back into that party lifestyle – but I know Richie wants to grow old gracefully, make some great
music and live a good life. I think once he wraps his head around with what’s went down in his life the past year – his divorce, his father’s passing, and most of all put some distance between him and his relationship with Denise – he’s gonna be OK.”
