Their wedding may not have been as ostentatious as expected, but Rod Stewart didnít scrimp on one very important thing Ė Penny Lancasterís engagement ring.

The model showed off her enormous diamond sparkler for the first time during the coupleís seaside honeymoon in the Mediterranean.

The rocker took his bride out for a romantic lunch complete with wine and kisses, and they later took stroll along the pebble beach.

They are clearly taking married life in their stride, both looked rested and relaxed during their outing.

Stewart opted for a casual open collared Polo Ralph Lauren shirt, while Lancaster kept her one-piece swimsuit covered in a sheer white sundress.

Their low-key honeymoon is in keeping with their wedding celebrations.

While in the past the veteran rocker might have opted for a more opulent occasion, he instead picked a 17th Century villa in which to say "I do" with just Penny's parents on hand to witness the occasion.

The football-loving singer, 62, whose hits include You Wear It Well and Sailing, had been expected to invite some of his superstar friends such as Sir Mick Jagger and Sir Elton John to the ceremony on the Italian Riviera, but decided to keep it small.

Afterwards, asked how the wedding had gone, a grinning Rod gave the thumbs-up while his 36-year-old wife, his girlfriend of nine years, said: "I feel fantastic."

The couple then strolled through the streets of Portofino and stopped at a street cafe for a cappuccino before spending the afternoon sunbathing on a yacht moored in the harbour.

They then headed off for an evening reception.
The wedding ceremony was carried out at 10am by local councillor Maria Benazzi at the magnificent Villa Durazzo in Santa Margherita Ligure, where staff had been obliged to sign a confidentiality agreement.

Model Penny wore a tight, kneelength cream dress and high-heeled cream strappy sandals, while Rod dressed down in blue pinstriped trousers and cream jacket.
Only Rod, Penny and her parents, Graham, 63, a retired solicitor, and Sally, 58, a hospital administrator, were present.
Mrs Benazzi said: "It was a very simple and sober ceremony that lasted about 20 to 25 minutes. "It's usually only around 15 minutes but as there was a translator there it lasted a little bit longer.

"Penny arrived first and had to wait a few minutes for Rod, so the ceremony started just a little after 10am.
"I'm delighted they chose Santa Margherita Ligure for their wedding. We had known for several months but the whole event was shrouded in secrecy."
The villa is surrounded by a lush green park and is a popular wedding venue among Italians.
Rod paid just under £500 to hire the room in which he and Penny wed, but handed over much more to close off the entire grounds for the time the couple were there.

In total, he is said to have spent £500,000 on the wedding day.
Mrs Benazzi added: "Rod Stewart was my idol when I was younger, so to carry out his wedding ceremony was a great honour.
"The villa's grounds were closed off for the ceremony and the gardens were full of bodyguards. "For the ceremony itself there was only Rod and Penny and her parents. "There was the classic simple civil wedding service, with an exchange of rings, and at the end I pronounced them man and wife. Scroll down for more
Rod and Penny sunbathed in the afternoon before heading to their wedding reception

"They kissed each other and her parents applauded."

An employee at the villa said: "It was a very small and intimate service. It was a classic, simple but elegant civil ceremony.

"There was no music or fuss.
"Once they were declared man and wife they kissed and the witnesses clapped and cheered. It was a lovely ceremony."
Afterwards, as the couple strolled around the town, Penny cradled the couple's 18-month-old son Alastair and held hands with her new husband.
The couple were then whisked off by speedboat to spend the afternoon alone together - having handed Alastair to Penny's mother - on the yacht.

While they sunbathed on board, minibuses with blacked-out windows ferried their guests to the reception venue, a converted monastery on a picturesque hilltop overlooking the resort.
At 3.30pm, Rod left Penny on the yacht and sped off to the monastery, which was manned by a British security team to keep people out.

The singer had changed into a pale blue suit and white trainers.

Celebrity guests included Celtic football manager Gordon Strachan and singer Michael Bolton with his girlfriend, Desperate Housewives actress Nicollette Sheridan.
The happy couple were also joined by five of Rod's seven children - Kimberley, 27, from his first marriage to Alana Hamilton; Renee, 15, and Liam, 12, by his second wife Rachel Hunter; Ruby, 18, by ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg; and toddler Alastair.
There was no sign of his son Sean or his eldest child, 43-year-old daughter Sarah.
As the day progressed, the threat of rain hung over the couple's celebrations. Fierce storms had lashed the fishing village on Friday but, despite ominous clouds in the early morning, there was glorious sunshine.
The previous evening, the couple had held a joint bachelor and hen party at the exclusive Hotel Excelsior along the coast at nearby Rapallo.
Guests were all told to wear white and danced and drank champagne until the early hours.
Rod's children opted to hold their own dinner at the Il Delfino restaurant in the pretty waterside square of Portofino. Perhaps wishing to make up for their earlier journey into Genoa - reportedly on a budget Ryanair flight from Stansted - the group ran up a £10,000 bill and left a £1,000 tip, all on Daddy's credit card.

Because being married is so much different from just living together and having a kid?
