When KISS-106.1 FM radio in Seattle held their “Girls Night Out” concert Sunday in Everett, featuring Fergie, Hilary Duff, Katharine McPhee & Lily Allen, Malakar was the guest of honor! As you can see in this video on YouTube from the event, he appears slightly bewildered at the scene taking place around him. According to Marcus D. Najera, the program director for 106.1, “Sanjaya was completely aware of the situation, and we had spoken about it for days in advance. He was on our morning show the next morning to talk about it. We weren’t trying to ambush him at all. The crowd loved it and it was a chance for them to cheer for their hometown boy.” “The drag queens played in with the theme of “Girl’s Night Out,” Najera continued.

He's actually come out and denied it a couple of times, but I can understand why he would stay in the closet for the time being. After all, he doesn't want to alienate his fan base of 12-14 year old girls, and he does need to concentrate on building a solid fan base if he is interested in developing an entertainment career. In some interview, he said something to the tune of "being the straight guy that understands women." After all, he has been raised in a house full of women and almost all of his friends are girls, so I'm sure that's contributed somewhat to his effiminate nature. Perhaps he's just a girlie man (as Arnold Schwarzenegger would say) or maybe he is gay. Who knows?

EDIT: From People Magazine May 7, 2007- "I got teased in school because people figured I must be gay because I understand women. I think that's why guys didn't like me -- because I got along with girls so well. When I went up to girls they would give me a hug and a kiss on the cheek like I was their gay friend. But I was the straight guy that understood them."
