She looks stunning - and is sharing intimate dinners with a new man. But friends say Kylie's tired, lonely and worryingly near burn-out.
Smiling and giggling over a shared meal of lamb and seafood in the Chilean seaside resort of Zapallar, the elfin blonde and her handsome companion looked for all the world like a smitten couple.
But consider that the woman in question is Kylie Minogue and her date is a married man, whose wife is just weeks away from giving birth to his second child, and this cosy dinner a deux takes on an entirely different hue.
It appears to be disastrous news for Kylie's image that she should be seen - they've also been on a boat trip together - with film producer Alexander Dahm, while his wife is at home in Mexico City.
This is, lest we forget, a woman who has attracted huge public sympathy following the way she suffered at the hands of two-timing French film star Olivier Martinez.
But the pictures do not tell the whole story. For the Mail understands that far from being an item, the pair are just good friends.
And while it does her profile no harm to be linked to another man, friends say the star would "never dream" of embarking on an illicit affair with a married man.
One glance at her strikingly unlined face during that intimate dinner date, however, reveals that Kylie is looking better than she has for years - almost eerily young and fresh-faced.
The reason? As she stands on the cusp of her 40th year (she will celebrate her 39th birthday later this month) friends say Kylie is increasingly gripped by a sense of crisis.
"She's working harder than ever to reassure the public that she's in the shape of her life, but if people knew the sheer grinding effort it takes to look so good at her age it would completely break the spell," says a long-standing confidante.
"In her quiet moments, when she is away from the crowds and the cameras which follow her everywhere, we're seeing an altogether different Kylie these days. She is rather tired and rather lonely.
"And while she is genuinely just good friends with Alexander, there is no denying that she would feel entirely different if he was a single man. The fact is that Kylie's desperate to find someone to share her life with, but after the way Olivier treated her she just can't bring herself to trust anyone.
"That's why she's so immersed in her work these days. She hasn't really got anything else in her life, so she's obsessing about her image and making sure the ageing process doesn't catch up with her."
Recent pictures reveal just how well Kylie has succeeded in this mission.
With her dazzling white teeth, eyebrows arched to perfection and not a wrinkle in sight, the adoring fans greeting Kylie Minogue in Shanghai last month would never have guessed her age.
The eyes, however, told a different story. Red and tired from yet another long-haul flight in the relentless promotion of Brand Kylie, they spoke volumes of the strain she has been under in recent months.
"Look closely and you will see the famous smile doesn't quite reach the eyes," a source who has worked closely with the star for years told the Mail. "That's partly down to tiredness but it's also a side effect of some of the treatments she's had to keep her looking amazing."
Indeed, the Mail understands that the star has recently embarked on a renewed campaign of rejuvenation, including courses of Botox and injectable fillers to banish any traces of wrinkles and plump up her lips.
Leading plastic surgeon Alex Karidis says Kylie is a "classic example of a celebrity who has used these procedures as a preventative measure. When you start using them as young as she clearly has, it is as good as having a brow lift," he adds.
Friends say Kylie's current singledom is especially painful for the star because she was "utterly convinced" she had found her soulmate in Martinez, who cheated on her and within days of their break-up moved on to younger woman in January this year.
And last week, while she was in Chile spending time with Alexander Dahm, Olivier was once more humiliating her as he was treated to a "lap dance" by his rumoured old flame Angelina Jolie (the pair were linked when he and Kylie were still an item, though both denied any romance).
Angelina performed the raunchy routine at the after-show party following the premiere of her directorial debut A Place In Time at the Tribeca film festival in New York.
Kylie's reaction, as ever, has been to throw herself into her work with a vengeance, in recent weeks spending day after day in the studio, recording her new album.
Meanwhile, she has undertaken a extraordinarily brave - following her breast cancer treatment - modelling commitment as part of her collaboration with H&M, a swimwear range.
[...]
Now, with her career and health back on track, Kylie has told friends that she is ready to start dating again.
But despite being endlessly linked with candidates there is still no sign of a suitable man.
Her sister Dannii has been trying to set her up on blind dates, but Kylie is understandably nervous about the process.
"She's been out with a couple of men but couldn't relax and enjoy it," says a friend. "It just made her realise how much she misses Ollie. Remember, she may have dumped Ollie but it was only under extreme provocation. In truth he pushed her to it."
So in the absence of a fulfilling relationship there is nothing to prevent Kylie from doing what she does best: working.
[...]
Now, she is spending her time - even if platonically - with a married man.
How poignant that a woman loved by millions is still searching for a man to love her.

Am I the only person who never fell under this woman's spell? She's marginally talented, reasonably pretty and that's about it.

^^^ Me too.
She's cute - ok, plastic surgery is what made her very pretty at some point and what is making her ugly now - and I like some of her songs, but I never got the craziness about her.

Oh dear. For a damage control article this is pretty lame.
Mentioning Ollie being unfaithful, surviving cancer, the botox making her tired....all this is supposed to make being cosy with a married guy for a week okay??
The most disappointing part of all this is in her interview immediately post cancer, she said that having had cancer made her more "compassionate". Then just on 18 months later she's doing this?
Everything she's done since has been to create money for herself. I don't see her being spokesperson for any worthy causes like Breast cancer research or anything. She'd be the perfect person to help raise research funds. So I can't see this compassionate side coming out there.
She had a man propose to her while was undergoing treatment and could have a long engagement until she was better to have a wedding but turned him down. (Olivier Martinez) So I don't get the lamenting because Olivier walked. She didn't want to marry him anyway or why turn him down?
so I dont see the compassion side there either.
You'd think after all she's been through with the men in her life that the last thing she would do to a pregnant woman is spend a week on holiday with her husband. I just can't see the new found sensitivity.
She just seems to never learn from her experiences.
She seems in denial about a lot things.
But that's just my take on it all.
I really hope her next album is a success as it seems to be the only thing that she lives for these days. To make more dosh. You'd think $65M would be enough but I guess it isn't for some people.

Why does the media think that if a woman is alone for two damn seconds, she is lonely and miserable? Fuck, I hate that! You don't see them lamenting about poor lonely George Clooney or how single Jack Nicholson is desperate to get married. Gahhh!!!!

^^ Too true! Men are allowed variations - some are family guys, some eternal bachelors, etc. For women, it's one role only - and for those of us who don't go down the marriage and children route, it's not because we are doing the right thing for ourselves, it's because we've got issues or we're mental or something. Sigh......

If she's truly tired and making herself ill trying to stay "beautiful", maybe she should slip out of the spotlight. Eventually the press would leave her alone and she could live her life.
It's unnatural to try to look 25 for the rest of your life. For the life of me, I can't understand why some celebs don't just retire instead of going to such extremes to remain in the spotlight. I guess their obsession with fame and youth is more important than enjoying their lives.

can't say i know any of her music. can't say i ever found her a great beauty.
there are some good points here but it's women who perpetuate the "lonely gal" syndrome. they write the self-help trap a a man books and they fuck other women's husbands. using her breast cancer for pity is pathetic and she might not have lost her last man if she wasn't such a self-absorbed narcissist. she strikes me as selfish and childish.

^^ From the article, it sounds like the wife is around the 8 month mark. She probably wouldn't be allowed to fly now that she's so far along.

Kylie should make way for Bonnie Anderson who is a Kylie lookalike who CAN sing and is VERY talented who won Australias Got Talent.
She's only 12 years old. Maybe Bonnie should give Minogue singing lessons. lol.

If I was about to give birth any moment I'd probably want my man beside me so I do think that's a bit odd, but then it's all supposedly in the name of "work" isn't it.
Here in Oz she's regarded as something of a saint, (not my personal opinion, I never found her particularly talented)

I agree if she is that tired maybe she should take more time off and rest.
