Jessica Simpson to Join the Marines – on Film
Jessica Simpson's acting career is turning her into a major movie star – literally.
The singer has signed on to play the title role in the comedy Major Movie Star, about a down-on-her-luck actress who enlists in the Marines, her rep tells PEOPLE.
"She's excited to get back on a movie set and get into a new character," says her rep.
Simpson, 26, who has already had starring roles in The Dukes of Hazzard and Employee of the Month, had been scheduled to being filming a spy comedy, The Witness, in June, but now she'll start shooting Major in Louisiana that month instead.
Until then, she'll be spending time with boyfriend John Mayer. "They're really happy," says a source.

If that's what you call it.

ummmm no, not really. I've never watched anything she's in and I intend to keep it that way.

The movie title is the dumbest thing I've ever seen, sounds like this project is just about her speed.

She keeps getting nominated for a Razzie! You would think she would realize that maybe people don't like her as an actress.

The only thing I've ever seen her in was the "Dukes Of Hazzard", which my ex-husband made me sit through. That could have been the marriage-ender right there...

I was gonna say - you should've gotten everything for having to watch that!

Her daddy has produced the last two films she was in so I think that's how she gets her roles.
I read she beat Brit Murphy out for this role too.

A movie titled "Major Movie Star" and starring Jessica Simpson could only be a COMEDY except the joke is on whoever cast her.

She isn't talented enough to carry a movie. What a bunch of bullshit. She couldn't act her way out of a paper bag.

What happened to all that bruhaha about her last movie- couldn't remember her lines etc. And that movie w/Dane Cook was a total failure, Dukes of Hazzard barely made any money, why is she still treated as a viable commodity?
