David & Victoria Beckham disagree on new religion

Victoria Beckham has started reading about celeb cult Scientology and rumours abound that she will be the next high-profile star to worship at the altar of L Ron Hubbard.

According to the Daily Mail, Vic's new LA friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are reluctant to show their continued hand of friendship to the Beckhams unless the British couple show some interest in the religion.

'Tom has basically been on to them both for a while now to show their commitment. Tom basically wants them to be ambassadors for Scientology in Europe and Japan, where David is obviously huge,' Vic's friend told the Daily Mail.

'Since Victoria is much more career minded she agreed to her commitment right off the bat. David is a lot more circumspect. He feels it's controlling, that he doesn't really believe in it and that it would be a bit false of him to preach something he doesn't believe in,' she added.

Vic and David signed the papers for their new £11 million mansion in Beverly Hills over the weekend. They move to the US in July.

It always strikes me as funny (in an annoyed, ironic sort of way) that pushy Christians get by with the sort of behavior that Tom Cruise is labeled a nut job for. Admittedly, his beliefs are a bit more out there, lol, but I have seen this same sort of behavior from Christians. Very annoying from them too.

I like that little quote that is something along the lines of "the only difference between a cult and a religion is the number of members" (i.e. social acceptance)

But back to the business at hand- If Beckham wants to succeed with the American public and bring soccer to the mainstream, Scientology isn't the way.

Up until now I'd only heard that Posh was really against the Scientology thing. I guess now she realizes she's not as high profile as she thought she'd be in the states so she really needs the high profile celeb friends.

I think that she will & has done anything to remain in the public eye & uses the "adulation" from the public to bolster her own lack of self-esteem.

on the train yesterday a religious nut almost got shut in closing doors because he was too busy announcing to everyone that "Jesus loves you ... blah blah blah". Im so thankful he managed to get out because it was an express train and i didnt particurally want to be stuck on train with a nutjob with no chance to escape.
