Prince William and Kate Middleton over

After four years together and constant rumours about an engagement, Prince William and Kate Middleton have reportedly ended their relationship.

The couple met in 2001 when they were both students at St Andrews University in Fife.

It seemed certain that the pretty fashion buyer would become Queen Kate but the 24-year-old Prince's move to an army camp in Dorset is said to have put a strain on things.

We don't buy that actually - it's not as if he's been posted to New Zealand - it'd take a couple of hours for him to get to London for a date with Kate, 25, and probably 15 minutes in a helicopter.

The BBC's royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell says: 'It's a surprise, because it had seemed very stable and very steady.'

Clarence House has not commented on the break-up.

He's been a Bad Boy recently with a lot of partying with ho's so if it's over then Kate's kicked him to the curb. Perhaps she's also used it an excuse to get on with a normal life instead of being sucked into the Royal Family and groomed to be queen one day. I may be wrong but I suspect William will end up marrying someone who understands the responsibilities and limitations of that role - a mistake they made with Diana who didn't have a clue. He will marry a nice European princess/aristo just like all his ancestors. The Royal Family has 'experimented' with allowing heirs and spares to marry 'out' (Diana and Fergie) and look what happened.

I'm surprised, but I'm not. The intense media scrutiny that goes along with such a position often just isn't worth it....even if he is an heir to the throne and one of the world's most eligible bachelors.

It's ashame though. I, too, was looking forward to a wedding. I do admire William's commitment to Kate for so many years when he was in a such a tempting position.

He woke up and realized that he is too young to be married.
Those pictures that came out in the papers of him with his hand on a girl's boob and his late night drinking with buddies was a red flag.

I know Kate must be hurting but one day she will wake up and she she dodged a bullet..

Absolutely. He's been with this girl for four years. He's a young guy ... now is the time when he should be taking advantage of being free to date and meet people.

I dont care really but for some reason this made me smile, its probably because they made such a big deal out of it, and out of Kate, so i'm glad it went down the shit-shooter.

Why would she get a cash setttlement? They weren't married or even living common law. How does not marrying him empower any woman anywhere?
