Beloved 1970s TV pin-up MAUREEN McCORMICK has stunned fans by confessing she secretly battled cocaine abuse and anorexia at the height of her fame.
The actress, who played wholesome MARCIA BRADY on THE BRADY BUNCH, has revealed she spent a decade hiding her demons from friends and fans in a new magazine article.
McCormick tells American publication People she started the journey towards an eating disorder when as a young actress she gorged herself on ice-cream and didn’t gain weight - by making herself sick.
She says, "It seemed ideal. Once I started, it was hard to stop." And a former boyfriend turned the teenage McCormick, now 50, onto cocaine.
She adds, "He was friends with people who did drugs. I have a very addictive personality. I know that now." McCormick admits years of therapy and her faith helped her kick her cocaine habit and adopt a healthier lifestyle: "Being able to quit drugs and finding belief in a higher power gave me the tools to end the bulimia." The actress insists one good thing has come out of her own troubled past she’ll recognise the signs if her own teenage daughter develops drug or anorexia problems.
She adds, "She knows what I’ve been through. I hope that keeps her from making those same mistakes."

Good on her for cleaning herself up. The teenage years are so hard as it is when you're dealing with body image, I cant imagine how horrible it would be to have to grow up on tv in front of millions of people.

If I'm not mistaken, she is on Celebrity Fit Club now, or was anyway.
She's put on a little weight due to her being upset over the loss of her mother.

I always thought she was so pretty and seems like a nice lady. Hope everything works out for her.

She must be grateful that she isn't at the height of her career in 2007 and having coke problems, the paps would eat her alive.
Its funny when you think how much privacy those old stars were really afforded compared to the stars today. At least they didn't have the internet back then or instant 24/7 entertainment news.

I totally agree, keeping it a secret would not even be an option in this day and age.

She was right with her time! Drugs were rampant in Hollywood during the 70's and 80's - they always have been. I laugh at these young twits who act like they invented partying...

But we just didn't hear about it so much - no internet, not as many paps, and the rags were a tad more respectful (or easier to be be bought off).

I just read her intereview in People. She said she gained 30 lbs over the last few years since losing her Mom and her daughter encoraged her to to do Celebrity Fit Club. They had a pic of her last year where she was plump. She said she is 5'3" and had gained up to 150. They wouldn't show a current pic but said she now looks great and followed all instrcutions she received on celebrity fit club.

She said she struggled with bulimia and coke for about 6 years and then was able to stop on her own thanks to her faith.

I thought she had already talked about the eating disorder a few years ago. Nothing about the coke, though. Does she have a book coming out? Why is she talking about this now?

If she was a celeb today, it definitely would have come out and we'd all be calling her a crack ho. But hard to believe Marcia, Marcia, Marcia had a drug problem. Although it explains the skin problems from that time. I wonder if Charlie would have still wanted to date her if he had known....
