Default Emma Watson (Hermione) turns down contract for final two 'Harry Potter' films

Quote:
Quote:
Emma Watson has reportedly refused to sign a new contract to star in the last two movies in the J.K. Rowling fantasy series--despite being offered $3.9 million to continue her role as Hermione Granger.

The 16-year-old--who was confronted by a crazed fan at her British school earlier this week--has allegedly tired of her role as Harry Potter's best friend and wants to try new projects.

But her decision has thrown the final two films,
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, into disarray, with filming due to start later this year.

Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the fantasy franchise, tells British newspaper the News of the World, "Emma doesn't want to do it anymore. She's tired of being known as 'that girl from Harry Potter.'

"Daniel (
Radcliffe) and I are distant from her now. We don't text or talk to her when we are not filming."

Movie giants Warner Brothers today confirmed
Watson has not signed on for any more Harry Potter movies.

That's a shame.
It annoys me when 'artists' get all uptight about the one song/film/book that made them famous. You got a break, you were lucky! Yeah, it'll be annoying to be known as 'that girl from Harry Potter' but what would she be without it? It'll only last a year or two, Daniel Radcliffe is already shaking off the HP image with that nudey Horse play he is doing.
It's given her a fantastic start to her young life and opened up so many opportunities. She'd be better off doing the last 2 films and thanking her lucky stars she ever got the role in the first place.

Besides, if it was me I'd be worried that the new actress might be better than I was!! Why quit so close to the end??

Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

Oh dear. What the heck are they gonna do now then? It's a bit selfish considering she'd still be a utter unknown had she not been lucky enough to land this gig in the first place.

Selfish little brat.

This is an ensemble production, not only has she turned down an insane amount of money for a role she has pretty much slept through anyway.

She has just ruined continuity for the entire series.

Richard Harris had a fair excuse for not hanging around for his role as Dumbledore. I hope she follows his lead for the rest of her career.

The wrath of HP fans will be almost punishment enough.

Great move luvvy. You have upset millions of fans of these movies, you knew how many movies there would be. The BBD is never going to happen for you when you piss off this many people - those kids you have let down are going to be the same ones spitting on you in the street. But Im sure they will buy tickets to your next movies

I must admit I was quite annoyed when I read this, I actually like some of the Harry Potter movies. I wonder if she's holding back to see whether they are going to offer her more $$$ bling bling $$$

I personally think she's doing it to cause havoc so she gets the attention. Bet cha she'll end up doing the last two series anyway, she's just stirring the media.

I don't even like the books or the movies, but I sure as heck wouldn't turn down 3.9 million to be known as 'that girl from Harry Potter.'

Thats a shame. She owns that role and i can't imagine anyone else doing it. Sounds pretty selfish and stupid considering how great an opportunity this is for her. i think she will be remembered as the girl who quit on Harry Potter. Yeah thats a great label for an actress!

Well, she was shit at the part, so good. Now if only Alan Rickman would quit as Snape!

She effectively ruined her career though. Stupid brat.

How selfish. She owes her whole career to this franchise and the people. She's not only letting down her castmates, but the producers and everyone who gave her her first shot. Now she thinks she's too good for them. And in a few years the girl will be back to being a huge zero again, so you might as well enjoy the ride.

She's a fool to not do these two movies.

One, she's not exactly an in demand actress other than this particular role. Two, she'll most likely earn the reputation of being unreliable. And three, the fans of this movie will probably always have a bad taste in their mouth over it, and any career she does have will most likely suffer.

This pisses me off...while at first I was pissed at Emma Watson being 'too pretty' to be Hermione but that I eventually got used to...

But now I, as well as many other HP fans are used to her being Hermione...she IS Hermione!

Her quitting now will ruin it not only for me but for a whole bunch of other people who don't want the natural chemistry of the trio broken...

It will just be weird seeing some other girl as Hermione no matter HOW good she is!

I wish Emma would just swallow her pride and stick it up for the last two, why quit when they are SOOO close to finishing up the movie franchise!

From what I believe Dan and Rupert are sticking it through...

GRRRR...C'mon Emma...

This news -> CBBC Newsround | UK | Emma Watson not quitting Potter say that she will most likely be Hermione in the last two movies. It says that the contracts are not signed yet, but that WB is confident that she will sign.

My 8 year old son has been telling me this for months and I refused to believe it. Oh well, she's reminding me of Keira Knightly now with her bitching about the Pirates of the Caribbean role. get over it you twit, this series of movies made you famous. live with it.

Richard Harris had a fair excuse for not hanging around for his role as Dumbledore. I hope she follows his lead for the rest of her career.
you're too funny!

That would be complete shit if she quit. It would piss me off to see a different actress/actor suddenly replace a character I'd gotten used to. I hope it's true she's sucking it up and finishing the series out. Even if she's tired of it, I agree it would be career suicide to quit and go out on such a bad note.
