"American Idol judge Simon Cowell admits he was stunned when contestant Sanjaya Malakar beat rocker Sundance Head for a place in the final 12 on Thursday night, and says he’ll leave the show if the Indian-American singer is crowned the next "American Idol." Cowell says, "He’s not going to win. I won’t be back if he does." Maybe Simon knows something we don’t."

I love Simon too, but I'm surprised he's spoken out about this. It's certainly not the first time an undeserving contestant has progressed and I'm sure it won't be the last. I was as surprised as anyone that Sanjaya moved into the Top 12, but I have absolutely no worries he'll go any further.

I get what he is saying. People are not voting on the singing. I know looks are important but damn. If a person sucks at singing on a SINGING competition, then they should be gone. I think I will side with Simon on this. I too won't watch if someone who sucks wins.

I find myself tending to agree with Simon's assessments of peoples singing abilities, and things they need to work on. He's usually dead on. This is another example of it. But I'm afraid Sangina (big pussy) will stay as long as the teenyboppers and granny vote have anything to say about it.

Do people in India vote on Idol? That would be funny if he won. I'm not very impressed with any of the contestants this season. I might just vote for Sanjaya for the hell of it.

As much as I dislike his media persona he's been very successful in the UK music industry as A&R and obviously knows "teen pop" when he hears it (he signed Westlife, one of the biggest boy bands in the UK); so if he says it's pap - it's pap....

You might like this quote tho "opining in Esquire magazine that Beyoncé Knowles was overrated" see the guy has taste!!!

I find it kind of funny that Simon feels this is unfair. Although it is, think about all the people who audition and get through for the very first rounds who are absolutely horrible and only for our entertainment value.......they take spots from people who are actually serious about auditioning/ can sing. Not only that, the judges picked Sanjaya out of 100,000 auditions for the top 24. So now they're upset........oh well. I find it kind of funny anyways and if Sanjaya won it would be sort of hilarious

They were talking about this on my local radio station the other day, and a bunch of callers said it was because of some group called 'vote for the worst'.....they have a website, and a bone to pick over Idol, so they have devised a plan to get other Idol haters to vote for Sanjaya. I would be amazed if a group of malcontents could pull this off, becuase Idol is something of a pop culture phenom...it seems everyone watches.

Sundance is a one note wonder. He's only good in exactly one style of music and he has too many bad singing habits to unlearn mixed with too much inconsistency in his performances. He would have gone eventually.
