Default Johnny Depp's daughter 'doing much better'

Johnny Depp's daughter, who has reportedly fallen ill in England, is "doing much better" the actor's rep said in a statement Thursday.

"We are happy to report that their daughter is doing much better," Depp's rep, Robin Baum, said in a statement. "The family greatly appreciates the continued support and respect of their privacy."

Depp and his longtime girlfriend , Vanessa Paradis, have two children, Lily-Rose, 7, and Jack, 5.

Several British papers have reported that Lily-Rose came down with an undisclosed illness over a week ago and that Depp, 43, has been by her bedside every day.

Depp has been filming a movie version of the stage musical Sweeney Todd for DreamWorks. A studio rep tells PEOPLE: "We have adjusted the schedule to accommodate [Depp's] needs at this moment. We understand that [Lily-Rose] is improving. ... Obviously everybody at the studio is certainly with them in their good spirits."

That's really great news. It's awful when your kids are ill - I can't even imagine how horrible it must have been for them all

It's really interesting that the press has given the Depp's their privacy. It makes it harder to feel bad for celebs who are in the limelight 24/7. Something about their actions must invite all the attention.

It has been reported on TMZ that her illness was due to a rusty tack wound left untreated and it poisoned the blood stream
(tetnus?) ... are people not vaccinated in the UK like we are here? (just asking)

    TMZ.com

Nine days after Johnny Depp's 7-year-old daughter was rushed to a London hospital, the cause of Lily-Rose's mysterious ailment is being pinned on a rusty tack.

According to In Touch, "the wound was left untreated" and "blood poisoning developed. It has now spread through her body and has affected her vital organs."

While there have been several conflicting reports on the severity of Lily-Rose's condition, Depp's reps tell the AP that she is "doing much better." The actor has reportedly not left Lily-Rose's bedside since she was admitted to the hospital on February 28.

I imagine that her parents didn't make much of a fuss after the little girl injured herself with the rusty tack....it's a shame that she didn't have her tetanus shots up to date.

I do hope that she makes a full recovery; poor kid.

Glad she is recovering. My poor Johnny must have been frantic with worry.
If I can't be a good example, then let me be a horrible warning.

Septicemia (blood poisoning) has nothing to do with whether or not she had a tetanus shot, so that would not have been able to prevent this from happening.

    Exclamation

^ I was thinking the same Merlot.

Even if she had her tetanus shot, any wound that doesnt stay clean - like a child ripping off the protective bandaid or scratching it with dirty fingernails - will most likely become infected.

Still... an infection no one noticed until it hit her blood stream (if the story is true) - sounds like it should have been obvious to someone that the wound was getting worse - not better...

Tetanus (clostridium tetani) could have caused the septicemia just as easily as any other bacteria. If clostridium tetani caused it then the vaccine would have produced antibodies that would have prevented or attenuated the infection from becoming a life threatening one because the immune system would have been able to attack the foreign entity before it had a chance to replicate and cause a wide spread infection...theoretically. If a patient is immune compromised for other reasons then their immune response can't necessarily mount an effective response even if they have had the vaccine.

Septicemia is not really blood poisoning. It is synonmous to bacteremia or otherwise known as a bacterial blood infection. A patient is septic when they have a postive blood culture. They develop septic shock when their blood pressure bottoms out as result of the bacterial blood infection. Severe septic shock develops when their organs start to fail due poor blood flow thus no oxygen delivery to the organs.

That said only a blood culture done prior to the administration of any antibiotics could determine which bacteria resulted in the septicemia. It could easily be a number of different bacterial causes.

Septicemia is easy enough to treat as long as the individual does not develop septic shock. If the patient goes into shock and consequently multiple organ failure then you have a major problem on your hands.

    Johnny Depp's daughter had E.coli

    Friday, 23rd March 2007, 12:53

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Johnny Depp's daughter was left seriously ill after reportedly contracting the potentially-fatal E.coli virus.

The Hollywood actor's seven-year-old, Lily-Rose, was hospitalised earlier this month with what was thought to be blood poisoning.

However, production staff on Depp's latest movie have now revealed what the illness was and claim the deadly virus caused Lily-Rose's kidneys to shut down.

An insider on 'Sweeney Todd' is quoted by Britain's The Sun newspaper as saying: "Everyone was shocked when we were told the real reason for Lily-Rose's illness. It was touch and go for her for a while."

Johnny - who also has a five-year-old son, John Jack, with long-term lover Vanessa Paradis- was distraught when Lily-Rose was initially hospitalised and kept a bedside vigil at the London hospital.

The 43-year-old star has often spoken about how his children have completely turned his life around.

He said: "I just want to watch my kids grow up and make sure they're healthy and happy. They are the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. I never thought it was possible to feel such profound, deep love. Being a dad has given me great strength, great perspective, great calm. More than anything, I love being with my family."
