When things all became too much for Billie Piper, the first person she turned to was not her new boyfriend - but her ex-husband, Chris Evans.



So it is little wonder that Laurence Fox, the actress' latest squeeze, looks less than happy during a night out with the Radio 2 DJ and Miss Piper.

The 28-year-old actor, sat in the back of the car, could have hardly looked any more awkward.
Wearing a green hooded jumper and designer glasses, his girlfriend of three months, meanwhile, giggled freely with the 40-year-old presenter.
'Billie and Chris were chortling away like a couple of naughty schoolchildren,' said one observer.
'Laurence though looked decidedly less amused and stayed pretty silent. But there is no question of him and Chris not getting on - they had spent large parts of the evening, earlier on, having a laugh themselves.'
The unlikely trio enjoyed a night out in London following a preview performance of Fox and 24-year-old Miss Piper's new play, Treats, at the Garrick theatre. Billie was at the centre of some unwanted attention from an over-excited fan who decided to get up close and personal. But before the fan could get too close, Laurence stepped in to fend him off.

From here, the three spent two hours in private member's bar, the Groucho Club, before stumbling into a waiting car together.



While Evans evidently had no qualms in joining the new couple during their night out, he did, at least, draw the line at squashing himself onto the backseat beside them.

Evans' presence last night could well be as a result of Miss Piper's recent erratic behaviour.

The Dr Who star was photographed last week in floods of tears, being comforted by the former TFI Friday host.


Such was her upset, that the play's producer, Bill Kenwright, took the unprecedented step of postponing the official opening to give Miss Piper a chance to get better.

Evans and Miss Piper, whose three year marriage to Evans ended in 2004, have remained close since their split, with Miss Piper often referring to the ginger-haired millionaire as her 'best friend'.
Indeed, the pair, who live in adjacent north London streets, are more than happy to spend time with one another's partners.
